WSI Updates and Reminders

Congratulations MKE Cudas on achieving Safe Sport Club Recognition!

Changes to Coaches Cards In SWIMS 3.0

On 2/13/24, USA Swimming updated SWIMS 3.0 (the USA Swimming database). The update included placing ALL courses that Coaches need to complete to be in good standing on the Coaches Card.

For many, that just meant more line items. However, for Coaches that began after 9/1/22, that meant “new courses” and indications that they were “not in good standing”. This is because courses that used to only be housed under the ALL COURSES pill under the General Information portion of a member’s profile, are now in the REQUIREMENTS pill under General Information and on the Coaches Card (found on the dashboard under My Member Cards). These courses are not NEW by any means, but because they are on the Coaches Card they are flagging many individuals that never completed them. They are the courses that have to be taken by all new coaches registering after 9/1/22 and include Welcome to the USA Swimming (WUS), Quality Coaches Framework (QCF), Core Certification-Full Course, and Rules and Regulations. WUS and QCF need to be taken prior to being on deck/certified as a Coach. The last two courses must be taken prior to the 2nd year of Coaching. These 4 courses will automatically update in SWIMS 3.0.

These courses are listed on the Wisconsin Swimming Website (click on the COACHES tab, then click on COACH REQUIREMENTS). The document can also be found here: 2024 Coach Membership Requirement Checklist. This document lists ALL required courses for Coaches.

Any questions about the above information can also be directed to amyd@wisconsinswimming.org.

PLEASE NOTE: We are in our blackout period from February 23rd to March 3rd and will not be  updating Coaches requirements. Please refrain from sending certificates until March 4th. Certificates can be sent to amyd@wisconsinswimming.org.

Meet Approval/Sanction Fee Update

2024 Athlete Registrations for WIAA HS Boy Swimmers

All WIAA High School Boy Athletes have to be registered for a 2024 USA Swimming Membership PRIOR to end of season observed competitions (WIAA Observed Sectionals and State Meets) for their times to be imported into SWIMS. Coaches, Club Admin, & Parents please confirm that your athletes are registered so their end of season observed times can be added to the SWIMS database.

________________________

Team Administrators, members and parents- if you have questions about your member information, team management information, registration information or syncing your Teamunify and SWIMS databases - please reach out to registration@wisconsinswimming.org as your first resource.

We have had a number of members reaching out to the USA Swimming help desk for assistance with these items. Based on their volume, their response times vary and in many situations our WSI Staff can resolve the concerns without having to pass it along to USA Swimming. If our staff does need national support, we know where to send the requests for expedited responses.

2023-2024 Wisconsin Swimming Awards Nominations

Please complete the form below to nominate a coach or athlete for their accomplishments and contributions.

Nominees MUST be members in good standing with Wisconsin Swimming at the time of their achievements.

Click Here to Make a Nomination

2023-2024 ConocoPhillips Outstanding Service Award

Each year Local Swimming Committees have the opportunity to select a recipient for the Outstanding Service Award. This award, sponsored by ConocoPhillips, is presented to a volunteer in each LSC in recognition of service to swimming. Recipients of the Outstanding Service Award are selected by the LSC and receive the award and an Outstanding Service Award pin.

Wisconsin Swimming is now accepting nominations for this year’s Outstanding Service Award recipient and invites the submission of nominations from its membership.

In recognizing the importance of volunteer work, United States Swimming and ConocoPhillips Company take great pride in honoring the role of the volunteer as an important investment in the future of all swimming athletes and the growth of the programs they represent. Clearly, volunteers like Jack Pettinger (1996), Bruce Maas (1997), Chuck Runge (1998), Dale Nickels (1999), Jim Mohr and Mary Schneider (2000), Drew Walden (2001), Patricia Kramer (2002), Mary Schneider (2003), Brian Sanders (2004), Susan Zblewski (2005), Brian Hancy (2006), Dave Clark (2007), Deb Nickels (2008), George Geanon (2009), Pat Lewno and Joan Domitrz (2010), Jeanne Drzewiecki (2011), Luke Schumm (2012), Rick Potter (2013), Nancy Roos (2014), Angela Monty (2015), Laura Becherer (2016), Sarah Larson (2017), Mark and Pam VanHout (2018), John Carabelli (2019), Cyndy Raatz (2020), Michael White (2021) , Van Donkersgoed (2022), and Michael Harbert (2023) previous Outstanding Service Award recipients, are critical to the success of United States Swimming in Wisconsin.

The Outstanding Service Award was established in 1981 to recognize the invaluable contribution of volunteer service to United States Swimming. The Award is presented annually to an honoree named by each of the 60 Local Swim Committees. Selection criteria consider quality, level and years of volunteer service in elected or appointed positions from among the categories of administrator, official, and coach.

This is your chance to help recognize someone you know for his or her sacrifice and commitment to the sport of swimming by nominating him/her for this prestigious award. All nominations must be in writing and include a description of the nominee’s service. No phone nominations will be accepted.

Nominations received by April 5, 2024, will be voted on at the April 29 WI Swimming Annual Meeting and presented at the April 20, 2024 WI Swimming Awards Banquet.

2023-2024 Breakout Swimmer of the Year

The past few years at the annual spring banquet Wisconsin Swimming has presented a special award called Short Course Breakout Swimmer of the Year. This year we will again honor a swimmer of each gender with the Short Course Breakout Swimmer of the Year. Swimmers eligible for the award must be aged between 15-18 years of age. They are nominated by their athlete peers or WI Swimming coaches that have taken notice. This award has the spirit to target athletes that have made large steps and found success later in their relative swimming life. Think of individuals that have shown great improvement during this short course season. Some credentials to consider may be first-time State or National meet qualifiers after swimming several seasons before reaching such a benchmark. Those nominations are not limited to the examples provided as they are just food for thought.
