Subject: Certified Meet Marshals at 2024 11-14 Short Course State Championship

As a best practice initiated by USA Swimming, meet marshal training and certification is available on the USA Swimming website. Meet Marshal Training Guide , Meet Marshal Certification Test.

Although USA Swimming has not mandated that meet marshals be certified, 2023 USA Swimming Rulebook changes now clarify the minimum required number of meet marshals in section 102.10.3 and 102.10.4:, as follows: "2 Marshals, with at least one of each gender". This requirement applies to all swim meets other than USA Swimming Championships, which require a minimum of 4 meet marshals instead of 2.

WI Swimming appreciates the value of certified meet marshals and is making the following recommendation; for all Championship meets, beginning with the 2024 11-14 Short Course Championship Meet, that meet marshals be certified.

For questions related to meet marshal certification, please contact gary@wisconsinswimming.org

Team Wisconsin

Mid States All Stars Information

Hi Parents,

I wanted to reach out to you and talk a bit about the Mid State All Star Meet. In my first stint as Age Group Chair, I signed Wisconsin up for this meet—a quick and fun timed finals meet, pitting 6 LSCs against each other. We first started attending in 2019, taking around 60 swimmers in the 10U/11-12/13-14 age groups. We had a BLAST. Swimmers from rival teams worked together, they were paraded out by Olympians, they swam at one of the fastest pools in the world—just fantastic.

The meet is January 6-7th, back again at the famed IUPUI Natatorium. The format looks to largely remain the same with folks coming down Friday night, swimming Saturday & Sunday, and getting back home Sunday night.

The one major knock we have with this meet is the selection process. It’s confusing and rushed. With families already stressed to the max around the holidays, waiting around for emails makes it seem worse. So, as I take over the selection process again for the 2024 meet I wanted to let you know of our big focuses for this year’s selection:

  1. Communication, early and often
  2. Clear timelines & deadlines for both parents and coaches
  3. Casting a wide net, making sure everyone knows about this meet and what it takes to be part of it

To be eligible for consideration for the meet, your swimmer needs to have swam one USA “A” time from January 1st of this year through the end of the registration period the Sunday of Single Age Champs, December 10th. That’s it.

To throw your swimmer’s name in the ring, you’ll sign up on the Team Wisconsin Zone page.

Registration is now open! November 1st. No decisions will be made until the full slate of athletes exists after the Single Age Champs meet.

Click here to begin the registration process

The full process and all our early meet-specific details can be found here.

The meet is open to all 14&U girls, and 14&U boys that aren’t in high school swimming. I’ve asked the WIAA several times for a reason why high school boy 14YOs can’t participate—I haven’t gotten a good answer.

We’ve got our coaching staff lined up already, and it’s a good one.

Melissa Springer (WYNS) will lead the show in Indy, supported by

Wendy Blunt(SWAT),

Jeff Bridwell (OCSC), and

Roshel Schilz (HSSB).

Doing the nitty gritty admin/clothing/hotel/everything else work will be Angela Monty

I’ll help with the selection process and then turn it over to the coaches.

If you have any questions in the short term, don’t hesitate to ask.

Para Accommodations / Modifications Form

Para Accommodations/ Modification Form

Para athletes or their representative coach will be expected to provide a written document of the desired accommodation (physical needs maneuvering throughout the venue) and/or modifications (technical rule changes while swimming) to the Meet Referee. Failure to provide the documentation will grant the Meet Referee complete discretion towards disqualifications.

Desired Accommodations (Please list any support required for the swimmer to navigate the facility; locker rooms, pool deck, getting in/out of the water, getting on the block/starting position):

(IE- Extended time required to get on the starting block; reassignment to an end lane for easier entry/exit; wheelchair brought to the side of the pool following a race; pull-buoy use during warm-up)

Proposed Modifications (Please list any limitations that would prohibit the athlete from completing a specific stroke as it is typically understood):

(IE- Inability to rotate ankles for a legal breaststroke kick; impaired shoulder range of motion preventing a two-hand finish; lack of motor control on the left side to bring left arm out of the water on the butterfly)

A unified approach will provide consistency for our officials and prevent people from bringing a crumpled napkin with ideas on it!

Wisconsin Swimming has created a uniform Para Accommodations/Modifications Form.
