Village of Whitefish Bay Official Weekly Newsletter
| |
|
Message from the Village President, Kevin Buckley
Congratulations to the Whitefish Bay Girls Soccer and Boys Baseball teams for winning their respective State Championships this past weekend!
Four items of note this week:
- On Tuesday, the Plan Commission will discuss a zoning change that could pave the way for re-development on the northeast corner of Hampton and Santa Monica.
- Also on Tuesday, the CDA will consider a grant proposal for Stone Creek, which is rebuilding on the former City Market space.
- On Thursday, the WFB Police will hold a Neighborhood Watch meeting, 7pm at Village Hall. During past meetings, the PD has put on excellent video montages of recent crime in the village.
- Have old paint or oil in your garage or basement? This Saturday, drop them off at MMSD's Home HazMat collection, hosted at Cardinal Stritch from 8am-2pm. See below for details.
Have a great week! -kb

Nighttime Bike Safety:
Now that school is out and the weather is heating up, we've seen an increase in bicyclists, especially at night. Bike lights are required by Village Ordinance any time between 1/2 hour after sunset until 1/2 hour before sunrise. Bike lights and wearing reflective clothing make you more visible to motorists and can help prevent accidents. Also, be sure to follow these other bike safety tips:
- Be visible. If you can’t see the driver, they can’t see you.
- Be seen when stopped.
- Obey traffic laws, signs and signals.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Ride on the road, bike lane, paved shoulder or path.
- Enhance visibility with proper lighting.
- Wear a helmet!

Rain Barrel Workshops:
Have you heard about the Fresh Coast Guardians / MMSD Rain Barrel Workshops? These are wildly popular interactive workshops that teach participants about the many benefits of using rain barrels and how to install one at their own home. The best part? One FREE rain barrel will be provided per owner-occupied household at the workshop!
These workshops fill up quickly, so sign-up for rain barrel workshop updates and get in on the next session!
