Village of Whitefish Bay Official Weekly Newsletter

Message from the Village President, Kevin Buckley

Two electric vehicle chargers have been installed in the municipal parking lot behind the Fox-Bay building. These chargers will serve as an amenity for customers shopping and dining on Silver Spring.

On Thursday, the WFB Police will hold their quarterly safety meeting, which is always fascinating. The meeting begins at 7pm at Village Hall.

Please read below, as there are many important stories about the Bike/Pedestrian survey, a Strategic Planning update, Assessor work, and the School Zone Safety Project.

Have a great week! -kb

Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing?

I received a letter from Accurate Appraisal, regarding assessment field work in Whitefish Bay. Is this legitimate? Yes. Please see more information below.

Help us improve bike and pedestrian safety in the Village of Whitefish Bay.

Please take a moment to complete our survey: https://wfbvillage.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=645

Your input is critical in helping the Village to identify high-risk locations and systemic safety issues and to create specific recommendations for safer crossings, paths and intersections for these multimodal transportation uses.

All data will be aggregated, and no individual responses will be made public.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Strategic Planning Update

Cory Poris Plasch of CP2 Consulting facilitated a strategic planning workshop last Thursday. Village Board members and the Management team spent 7 hours developing mission, vision, values, strategic goals, outcomes, key indicators, and targets based on stakeholder feedback.

Assessor Field Work Notice

Accurate Appraisal, the contracted assessor for the Village, will be conducting their field work starting this week! Vehicles will be marked with Accurate on the side. Letters were mailed to residents on June 3, 2024, for all residences that will be contacted (see example letter below). The visit will take approximately 5 to 15 minutes. The purpose of this visit is for reviewing property characteristics to develop fair and current values for the purpose of property tax assessment.

Properties viewed annually include those that have had a recent sale, acquired a building permit, need data verification, or land that needs classification.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us info@accurateassessor.com or call 920-749-8098.

School House Park

Our DPW crew was hard at work last week planting annuals and perennial vegetation as well as installing the new irrigation system! The fountain and surrounding area in School House Park are looking fabulous!

EV Charging Station Project

The two dual port Level II EV charging stations are now installed and operating! The EV charging stations are located in the western Beaumont parking structure. The charging fee is $2 per hour with a two hour maximum limit.

School Zone Safety Improvement Project

In May, the Village received and signed the State/Municipal Agreement (SMA) Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to proceed with this project, which will include updating the signage as well as implementing numerous other safety enhancements for all eight school zones. The goal is to substantially reduce the crash risk for walking or bicycle riding within these high pedestrian traffic areas.

The TAP grant will cover up to 80% of design and construction costs for this project.  Once the SMA is fully signed by the Department of Transportation, the Village will be authorized to start a Request for Qualifications process to select a designer for this project.

Please Register- https://www.wfblibrary.org/our_events/?eid=1781

Join us to hear author Douglas Armstrong talk about his most recent book, Sun Dog Memory.

About the book, Sun Dog Memory: The girl is a dead ringer for his long-missing sister. And Jed Albright’s chance encounter with her outside a cowtown depot in Sun Dog Memory sets in motion this Depression era saga of a family at war with itself. Following the girl will lead Jed down a trail back to the family’s boom and bust struggles on the vast Kansas plain twenty years earlier. Is it too late for this determined railway mail clerk to restore peace amidst a web of lies and treachery?

About the author: For thirteen years, Armstrong was the movie critic for The Milwaukee Journal, where days of cinematic escape led him to try his hand at fiction in his spare time. His short stories appeared in pulp magazines like Ellery Queen and Alfred Hitchcock Magazine, among others. His debut novel, Even Sunflower Cast Shadows, published in 2010 was awarded the Council for Wisconsin Writers Award as the best novel that year. In 2012, he began a series of newspaper novels about the turbulent issues of the 1960s and the effect that protests over the war, civil rights, and the treatment of women had on newspaper reporters covering those events. Life on The Sun and Color of The Sun are currently available.
