Village Hall:

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Thank you to the men and women of the Whitefish Bay Police Department for their service, dedication, and commitment to the Village of Whitefish Bay. If you see a Police Officer around the Village next week and beyond, be sure to pass along a smile, a “thank you,” or a wave!

Whitefish Bay High School Theater Presents William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing

One of Shakespeare’s most frequently performed comedies, Much Ado About Nothing revolves around two couples — witty Beatrice and Benedick, who publicly proclaim their disdain for each other but fall madly in love; and naïve Hero and Claudio, who fall quickly in love only to be thwarted and then reunited (in both cases, with a bit of help from their friends). But it’s more than just a comedic romp. The play tackles serious themes too: trust and betrayal, power and privilege, gendered expectations around chastity and violence. This is a comedy entangled with a tragedy, where love and justice nevertheless manage to prevail with vigorous joy — a perfect play for our uncertain times. Come join us for this production that will both fill you with joy and invite you to explore its complex themes long after the curtain has closed!

On Hands: Screening of the full feature documentary by local filmmaker Laj Perhad Waghray

Thursday, May 30, 6:30 p.m.

Please register: https://www.wfblibrary.org/our_events/?eid=1766

On Hands (2018) is a non-linear narrative which calls attention to an essential way of experiencing the world by using our hands. “In a time when our experiences of the world are mediated through technology, this introspective, poetic film focuses our attention on an essential and tactile way of understanding it. By documenting the work of 20 Makers, this project explores the satisfaction they derive from working with their hands. On Hands had a unique opportunity to reach a particular audience stuck at home due to the pandemic. It is a remarkable story that documents the work of 20 artists.” Waghray will be in attendance for a Q & A session afterward.

Laj Perhad Waghray is a member of Milwaukee Film’s Focus Finders, co-founder of Didi, which aims to end violence against women, and serves on the board of Lynden Sculpture Garden. She has directed, produced and co-produced multiple documentary films notably: Sleepovers (2012) and Together Alone (2020), Searching for Sparrows (in process). Earlier works include Janet Fitch’s three-part series, Guns, Grief, and Grace in America (co-director, 2009) and Ramon Rivera-Moret’s On Calloway Street (co-producer, 2008).
