JUDGED BY OUR FRUIT

Jesus spoke a rather obscure and often poorly understood word that is found in Matthew 12:33 which says, “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good, or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt, for the tree is known by his fruit.”
Okay, so how do you determine whether a tree will be good with sweet fruit, or bad [corrupt] with bitter fruit that cannot be eaten? We are talking about the same type of tree, or as we would say, comparing “apples to apples” and not “apples to oranges,” a different kind of tree.
We grow a lot of orange trees where I live in Florida. People know very well the sweetness of an orange and its juice. They fail to understand what we must do in order to “make the tree good, and his fruit good.” It has nothing to do with fertilizing, watering, pruning, or other care given it. It has to do with the very nature of the mature tree. How so?
The original native Florida oranges are what we call “sour orange” or bitter orange.” Its fruit is so disgustingly bitter as to be considered inedible. The outside peel is covered with protruding bumps like tiny pimples all over it. Nobody wants this fruit or its thorny tree. Yet, it has some very durable traits. It is somewhat drought resistant, not needing to be watered and it is disease resistant. These are desirable qualities. These were the qualities of the original native trees. They still exist today.
So, how do we “make the bitter tree good?” We use the young bitter orange tree and use it as “root stock” which means we cut away all its branches down near the root ball, then we graft a young shoot from a sweet orange tree onto the remaining root ball and stub of the bitter orange tree. This grows into a sweet orange tree, the kind with which we are familiar.
All oranges sold in Florida and all trees in orange groves or backyards originated from the root stock of the sour orange.
So, it is also in God’s kingdom. All people are born with a sin nature, bitter to God’s taste. That nature bears corrupt, bitter fruit in people’s lives. When we accept Christ as our Savior, the old sin nature is pruned (cut) off, and we are grafted into the body of Christ so that we can produce fruit that is good and pleasing unto God.
What about Jesus’ parable of the vine that has unfruitful branches that must be pruned? (cut off and thrown into the fire) Well, orange trees (especially young ones) sometimes put out new “branches” called water sprouts. These branches will never bear fruit if allowed to grow. They will rob the nutrition (sap the life out) from the other good branches. These water sprouts (branches) must be cut off for the good of the tree.
So, it is with us, just like it is with the orange tree, we can grow into a bitter orange tree or sweet orange tree. We make the choice. We can live a life of sin and have a bitter eternity or choose the new life through Christ and have a sweet eternity.
That is the parable of how we make a “good tree” or a “corrupt” tree. We can judge the fruit by the nature of the tree.

UNFORGIVENESS –
A PRISON OF CHOICE

The most valuable gift we have ever received from Father God is forgiveness of our sins which comes through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus made the choice to die for our sins. He was an innocent man, put to death for you and me. He took the punishment, and we received the pardon.
Jesus spoke a lot about forgiving in scripture. Peter asked him if he was supposed to forgive seven times in a day, and Jesus said, no, seventy times seven, which is 490 times in one day. Now if you divide that out by hours and minutes it comes out to twenty times an hour, or once every three minutes. There is no room for not forgiving others in a person’s life.
So, while would we call unforgiveness a prison of choice? Jesus told Peter about the seventy times seven then tells a story of a man that had a great debt. He could not possibly pay it. He was brought in before his creditor and the man demanded that he pay the debt. He asked for mercy and the creditor forgave him of the entire debt. He could have put him in jail.
Then, this man that owed the debt saw another man that owed him a small debt. He demanded that he pay the debt. Like himself, the man could not pay it. Instead of forgiving him for that debt he threw him in prison. When the first man’s creditor heard what happened we see the results in Matthew 18:33-34 where it says, “33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord (the creditor) was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.”
The word tormentors in this verse means torturer. This would be someone that oversees prisoners and torments or tortures them. This person represents Satan, who is the greatest tormentor of all.
Jesus used this illustration to show us that we have been forgiven our sins when we didn’t deserve to be forgiven. We should likewise forgive others their sins without expecting anything in return. If not, we, like that first man will live a life of torment, controlled by Satan. We are in a prison that we chose because we did not forgive.
Is it worth not forgiving others? I would say no. We should always live a life of instant forgiveness and instant repentance. There should never be any place for not forgiving others in our lives. If we make the choice to not forgive then we face the ultimate consequences like that first man did.
Remember, forgiveness frees others, but it also frees you. Now, you have the choice to either stay in that prison of unforgiveness or to forgive and be set free.

Destiny – that seems like a small word to you but your destiny is your life. Before you were in your mother’s womb you were destined to this very hour. There have been many stones and ditches along your path of life, but I have been with you each step of the way. Before you even knew I was there I was with you. I have been with you and will remain with you saith the Lord, but what would you have? Would you go forward and continue to stumble, or would you let me guide you? Your destiny is not to be controlled by everyday circumstances, yet, you let those things control it. I would be the one to bring your destiny to pass, but you must listen to my plan, and when I am silent then you must stand and trust me to prepare the path for you.
I will not shout at you from a mountaintop, I will not push you from behind and shove you from side to side. I will be the gentle nudge of your heart knowing that it is the right way. You have questioned me so many times, and yet, have not understood the way of truth. You have bounced here and there because you are not on the path of truth. You shift so easy my child. Would it not be better to just trust that I am making your way straight? Can you just rest in the fact that I know more than you do, and will not bring harm to you as you trust me? I have a plan for you, my child, and it is good. I will not reveal all of it at one time, for your heart could not bear to hear all of it, and you would be filled up with arrogance and pride. I lead you one step at a time, taking you into places that you never dreamed of since your youth. Trust me that I will help you fulfill your destiny. I will not take you down paths that will hurt you, but paths that will refine you into the person that you have been called to be. Trust me, saith the Lord. Trust me.

So just accept God’s divine protection plan for your life…Even if you cannot seem to understand that closed door in front of you.

My heart was full and ablaze with His Love for me. And as I meditated on this feeling, I heard a different sound. It was the Father speaking.
Don’t question My Love and My purposes I have for you. I wrote My words in the Bible. They are living and powerful. They do not die. But if you do not listen to My words, you will surely die. My words will go on living. All you have to do is surrender your life to My Son. He lived and died to bring My people back to Me. I am your biggest fan but My words will not continue to cover you if you continue to reject My Love for you. Choose this day who you will serve. Time is running out. I have waited patiently but I grow weary for you have not repented and turned from your sin. I am a loving and forgiving God but no one has turned back to Me. Look up because I am coming soon. When I come I will divide My people from those of this world. Choose today. Receive My Son and know that as you do, every sin is blotted out. Your sin is ever before Me but I am a forgiving God. Repent, confess your sin and receive My forgiveness.
