Groovin' in the Grove Is This Saturday! | |
We're putting the final touches on WDIY's 29th anniversary party, Groovin' in the Grove, coming up this Saturday.
You're invited for an afternoon of fun under South Mountain Grove's covered pavilion, so don't let a little rain stop you from coming out. Enjoy great food, drinks, raffles, activities for kids, and live music from the Lehigh Valley's own James Supra/Sarah Ayers Band.
We'll see you there!

WDIY Classics
Host: Andrew Tomlinson
Monday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Music lovers in the Lehigh Valley know and love Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor, a highlight of this year’s Bach Festival. This morning we’ll explore the sound world of Bach’s masterpiece. The Mass was completed in 1749, but some parts were written as early as 1724, and this period, from the 1720s to the 1740s, saw the height of the Baroque, when a group of composers from all over Europe came into their full maturity. Bach, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi, Rameau, Zelenka… all were born within a few years of each other, between 1678 and 1685. A highlight this morning will be the music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, sometimes called the “catholic Bach”, who was a court composer in Dresden, not far from Bach in Leipzig. Yet all these composers were aware of each other, sometimes as friends, sometimes as competitors, and all contributed to the astonishing flowering of music in the mid-18th Century that set the stage for Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in the years to come.
