Worcester, Massachusetts - At its annual meeting earlier this month, Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. welcomed Noreen Johnson Smith as its new Board Chair. Johnson Smith is the Chief Development Officer at the Family Health Center of Worcester. She has served on the board for five years.

Johnson Smith steps into the Chair role held for the past three years by Steve Joseph, Senior Vice President at UNUM. Joseph will continue to serve on WCAC's Board.

"We are most appreciative of Steve's leadership, which has helped build a strong, stable and responsive agency," said WCAC Executive Director Jill Dagilis. "We are pleased to welcome Noreen's passion and commitment to community as we continue our work to enhance the agency's impact on individuals and families in need throughout Worcester County."

"The staff of the WCAC provide vital services in our communities, helping individuals complete their education, develop skills, find employment, and head back to work knowing that their children are safe and enrolled in quality early education," said Johnson Smith.  "Low-income seniors are able to stay in their homes because of the weatherization support and fuel assistance provided by WCAC. Our board is dedicated to assuring these services remain available for all residents in need."

WCAC's Board of Directors is a tripartite board comprised equally of representatives of the public sector, private sector and community. Rounding out WCAC's Board leadership for the coming year:  Don Xenos, Vice Chair;  Brian Westerlind, Treasurer;  Michael Keegan Assistant Treasurer;  Leslie Baker, Clerk; and  Donna Lombardi, Assistant Clerk.
