Ace of BACE
Not only is 2021 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (BACE) happening this year from October 12 to 14 in Las Vegas, 90 percent of its planned exhibit space is already booked. This suggests that our industry is excited to attend the largest business aviation event in the world to reconnect with colleagues, display products and services, learn from our leaders in an education session, and ahem, socialize.

2021 NBAA-BACE will be held in a new wing at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), which will have safety protocols in place during the conference. NBAA and the LVCC will use the latest Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and will update policies and procedures as they change.

Many new companies will join the event for the first time this year in West Hall which boasts 600,000 sq ft of exhibit space, 80 new meeting rooms, and a 14,000-sq-ft outdoor terrace for receptions.  This year’s event will feature advanced air mobility technology, a focus on business aviation sustainability, and an increased program highlighting thought leaders.
The 2019 event featured over 1,000 exhibitors at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), nearly 100 business aircraft on static display at Henderson Executive Airport, dozens of education sessions and networking with 25,000 business aviation professionals.

Candlelight Farms Airport 11N
by Bob Sabbatino

Candlelight Farms Airport (11N) is now under new ownership.  Dave, along with his brother Jon and lifelong friend, Joe, became the owners of the airport in November 2020.  Both Dave and Jon are retired FedEx pilots with extensive GA backgrounds.  They have been associated with Candlelight since the late 1990s.  When the previous owner put the airport up for sale, there was concern that the property could be developed.  The brothers wanted to preserve this special place for future aviators.

11N was created in 1953 and is now one of the few remaining real grass GA airports open to the public.  Located just 75 miles north of NYC, this scenic airport is situated at the north end of Candlewood Lake in New Milford CT.

There is a large group hangar at the south end with six permanent vintage aircraft.  Located within is a beautiful L-4 Cub along with two circa 1950s C-180s.  In addition, there’s a 1967 C-182, a Super Cub on amphibs, and an Oshkosh award winning 1969 E-33-C aerobatic Bonanza. The hangar is the social center of the airport.

Along with the new owners, the hangar group (also known as “the six pack”) has done extensive work refurbishing the dirt driveway, runway, and hangar.

Candlelight is a wonderful place to unwind after a “hard” day of flying or to have a picnic next to your airplane. This is an ideal airfield for those with tailwheel aircraft looking for that rare public strip to land on.  Yes, nose gear are welcome too. Please check NOTAMS as the field can be closed due to soft conditions caused by heavy rains/snow.
