Meet Coach Devon
Tell us about Yourself
Devon is from the Bellingham area and played soccer at Simon Fraser University in Canada. She has been with ECFC for just over a year, and recently helped lead the Roosevelt Women’s Soccer team to their first state championship title in program history. When not coaching, she works for Girls on the Run Puget Sound as a program coordinator and is working towards obtaining her doctorate in sports psychology and masters in clinical mental health counseling.
What inspired you to get into coaching?
Soccer has been a constant that has fueled my life. Whether it be on the field playing, coaching, or refereeing, I feel at home on the pitch. I am passionate about empowering youth through sport, and I thoroughly enjoy being able to give back to a sport that has given me so much.
What is your role at ECFC and what does it entail?
I coach the F11 white and F07/08 white teams at ECFC. My priority is to promote their development as players and individuals. I strive to create a positive team culture that fosters inclusivity, camaraderie, and fun. I work closely with the amazing coaches and directors at both age groups to develop session plans that ensure we are maximizing the time spent with players at trainings and games.
Why do you coach at ECFC?
ECFC has a genuine care for players and the community. The philosophy of putting players’ wellbeing and development first really resonated with me, and I could see that being put into practice the moment I came out to a session. The positive stories I’ve received from community members when I tell them I coach for ECFC speak volumes, and I’m grateful to be part of such a caring group that values players and coaches.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I am a dual citizen of the US and Canada, and I crossed the border 4+ times a week to play up in Vancouver in my youth.
