San Francisco Black Film Festival Salutes New Release

“Surrounded”

Black Panther’s Letitia Wright Stars

as an Intrepid & Heroic Female Buffalo Soldier

Release: 06/20/2023

Five years after the Civil War, freedwoman and former Buffalo Soldier Moses “Mo” Washington travels west to lay claim on a gold mine- the summation of years of toil for Mo and her community. It is a mean, dangerous world for an unaccompanied Black woman in 1870 America and so Mo travels into the deep frontier

disguised as a man.

After her stagecoach is ambushed by a group of murderous thieves, Mo is forced to hold legendary outlaw Tommy Walsh captive while the remaining surviving passengers seek out help. What ensues is a battle of wills, blurring the line between captor and captive, as they both try to survive the harsh western landscape.

Directed by Anthony Mandler and written by Andrew Pagana & Justin Thomas and Andrew Pagana, the film stars Letitia Wright, Jamie Bell, Jeffrey Donovan, with Brett Gelman and Michael K. Williams.

TRIBUTE TO SAN FRANCISCO BLACK FILM FESTIVAL'S FOUNDER

AVE MONTAGUE

Dear SFBFF Friends,

Thank you, for the opportunity to recall my memorable experiences with the iconic SFBFF. My memorable moments goes back in time to 2008 with SFBFF Founder Ave Montague

As CEO/Founder of Capital Talent, Ave gave me the opportunity to be networking partner for her event. I co-hosted a SFBFF vendor space with Melorra and Melanie Green to promote the festival at the iconic SFNABA Annual Holiday event held at the San Francisco Metreon. What a wonderful experience it was being in the room with so many networking professionals representing their specific organizations.

My fondest memory was when Ave invited me to host an Audition workshop as part of the 2008 SFBFF event.

The workshop included a panel of entertainment professionals from an Actor, Director, and Producer in which I, as a Casting Agent, facilitated a discussion on expectations relating to Casting/Auditions from each film industry represented. I will never forget this wonderful opportunity extended to me by Ave. Rest in Heavenly Peace Ave!
