Volusia Online Learning Community Member,
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. As of the publication of this Foxhole Flyer, there are exactly two weeks left in the year, and all students should be finalizing their coursework by the end of this week. We also are in the midst of celebrating our students and teachers who have demonstrated excellence this year. This week, our focus is on the Graduating Class of 2024. On Monday evening, we showcase their outstanding achievements at our Senior Awards Night being hosted at the Athens Theatre in DeLand. On Thursday this week, we celebrate their collective accomplishments at the Ocean Center in Daytona where nearly half of our amazing seniors will graduate with honors. I am so proud to be their principal and cannot wait to watch them walk across the stage!
Over the past month, we have been honoring our teachers in each individual subject area for their outstanding work this year. Congratulations to the following VOL Teachers of the Year:
- Vicki Hamlin, VOL Teacher of the Year
- Brenda Compton, Elementary Social Studies
- Linda Colandrea, Secondary Social Studies
- Michelle Spencer, Elementary Math
- Mariana Bianco, Secondary Math
- David Tindal, Physical Education
- Anne Morgan, World Languages
- Stacey Horn, Career and Technical Education
- Juli Gippert, Exception Student Education
In addition to being named the VOL Elementary Math Teacher of the Year, Michelle Spencer was also named the Volusia County Elementary Math Teacher of the Year! Congratulations Ms. Spencer and thank you to all of the wonderful VOL Teachers of the Year!
Before I sign off for this issue, I would like to officially announce that VOL will soon be moving once again! Starting June 6th, VOL will officially be open for business at our new headquarters located at 336 E. Highbanks Rd., DeBary, FL 32713. I know it seems strange for us to move after only being at Deltona Middle School for one year, but I am genuinely excited for this move as the new facility will allow VOL to have its own campus in a facility that better suits our needs. I will have more information about the move in the final Foxhole Flyer at the end of May.
That’s all I have for this issue. Please be sure to scroll down below for testing information and highlights about our outstanding families and staff.
Thank you for reading.

The End is Here!
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. All K-11th grade students are expected to have all their coursework completed in all courses by this coming Friday, May 24, 2024.
Any incomplete or missing assignments in a course will be given a score of zero, which will negatively impact the student’s final course grade.
Want to check on your student’s progress in their course(s)? You can create a parent/guardian FLVS account to monitor their progress and performance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You can also use your student’s login information to view their progress and course grade from their student dashboard.
Keep in mind, the letter grade and grade percentage shown on the student dashboard does not include or account for any incomplete assignments.
The percentage complete indicates how much of the coursework the student has actually completed, and all students should be 100% complete with their coursework by 5/24/24.
IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:
- K-11th Grade students must have ALL Segment 2 coursework completed BY 5/24/24.
- All VCS schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
- The official last day of the 2023-2024 school year is Friday, May 31, 2024.

Recently our VOL Back to the Books team (Isabella Spencer, Braydon Borriello, Lily Luers, Mackenzie Dann, and Angelo Leuenberger) sponsored by Polly Wilson participated in Volusia County School’s Battle of the Books Competition at Daytona State College. Our team worked well together to ensure all voices were heard as they answered challenging questions about this year’s Sunshine State Readers. They had a respectable showing, placing 5th overall in the Middle School division. Thank you to their wonderful families for coming out to show support and cheer on our Battle of the Books team!

VOL had many students participate in the Superintendent’s Spring Reading Challenge. Congratulations to Amnah Gillespie, Liliana Gillespie, Raina Gillespie, Gabriel Soto, and Londyn Lai Hing Bremner for reading 400+ minutes and earning a $20 Fun Card to Daytona Lagoon. Congratulations are also in order for Bryan Taylor, Benjamin Berglund, Jayla Sing, Kaylee Williamson, and Keauna Sing for reading 600+ minutes and earning water park passes for Daytona Lagoon. Keep on reading!
Congratulations to Anya Anderson! She was nominated by several of her teachers as VOL’s nominee for Volusia County Schools of Character Campaign. Anya emulates this month’s character trait of tolerance in her day-to-day activities at VOL.
