Volunteers Take Action
Dear CRC Volunteer,

It is an amazing thing to celebrate September's Hunger Action month and to know that you are actually taking action.

Community Resource Center works to end hunger, domestic violence and homelessness in our community. People experiencing any of those can feel shame, feelings of failure and hopelessness. Often, these are silent struggles and we might be surprised by who bears the weight of them. We are heartbroken for each parent, each child, each refugee, each person who goes hungry. But we can also celebrate the work being done to come alongside of them to provide food.

Whether you directly work in our Food and Nutrition Center (FNC) or you volunteer in any other capacity, you are joining in CRC’s mission and you are making a difference.

Please take a look at two things for me today: First, the graph below shows the data behind what we do. And secondly, click here to read the words written by one of our FNC volunteers illustrating beautifully the why behind what we do. Then, read on to see other ways volunteering continues to create change!
Warmly,

Sara Rosenbaum
CRC Volunteer Manager
Volunteer News
Bethlehem Serves September 11th
Thank you to Bethlehem Lutheran Church for once again partnering with us on a volunteer project.

The crew came out and sorted 5 bins of clothing at the Encinitas Resale Store. The day before had been an unusually large donation day, so this was especially helpful!

Sorting is a very essential part of our resale revenue stream. It is the second step towards getting our donation on the sales floor.

Robert Pontier, Encinitas Store Manager writes: “The guys were fun to work with. They were friendly and focused on the task at hand. Thank you!”
CRC Staff Embrace Volunteering!
Even CRC Staff understand the power of a volunteer.

A group headed over to the Produce Good gleaning event on Friday, September 2nd and picked over 2000 pounds of lemons!

The fruit went to the CRC Food Pantry and went home with many of our clients.
Another group of CRC staff went out to provide support for the Country Friends Fashion Show and Luncheon Fundraiser on September 15th.

The Country Friends is one of the oldest philanthropic groups in San Diego, giving to dozens of charities in San Diego every year – nearly $14 million since it was founded in 1954.

DV 40-Hour Training
Thank you to the volunteers who spent the month of September along with staff and community members, doing the 40-hour DV Advocate Training.
Upcoming DV Training
CRC is providing an incredibly valuable 4-hour DV training on October 14th.

Understanding the underlying causes and signs of domestic violence and ways to take action are powerful steps to end unhealthy relationships in our communities. To register please email: LCANSECO@CRCNCC.ORG

Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to Ruth Johnson, a social media volunteer for CRC!

From nominating staff Janis Garcia, "Every week, Ruth photographs items with care and creativity in the Encinitas Resale Store to help us with our social marketing. Her willingness and faithfulness is a huge gift to our small marketing department!"

Thank you Ruth for your behind the scenes (camera) work to support our mission!
