Volunteer of the Week

Jacquie Lewaren is our volunteer of the week and the 2024 WPS Volunteer Awards Adult Award recipient!

Working in a thrift store can be an arduous job, as each day different donations come in. However, this 80-year-old volunteer is always up for the challenge. Jacquie treats the clients at St. Vincent de Paul with kindness and respect. She understands that many of the clients are coming to the organization at one of the toughest times of their life. Be it a refugee family from Ukraine looking for assistance to clothe their children, a mother and daughter living out of their car until they can get back on their feet, or someone who just lost everything in a house fire, Jacquie is there to help.

Jacquie’s nominator wrote, “This person chose to give of herself but has given more to all of us than she could possibly imagine. She has become a friend to our customers, but also a cheerleader for our employees, making sure their hard work and efforts never go unnoticed.” Her nominator goes on to write that Jacquie shows us that at any point in our lives and at any age, we can share the best parts of ourselves with our community, and that there is a place for each one of us. Thank you, Jacquie, for your compassion and kindness to so many others!

You Belong's family classes for ages newborn to kindergarten focus on caring for families with littles. Their play-based learning helps children grow alongside their peers while parents get to connect with other parents and work on being the best caregiver and parent they can be. Their instructors create a supportive environment where families are encouraged to play together and participate in crafts, circle time with songs and stories, and play-based learning. You Belong is looking for volunteers to help play with their children ages 1-6 while parents get a time to connect and learn to be the best parent. Shifts: 9:15-11:15 am Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 5:45-7:45 pm Wednesdays (one hour extra at the end of all shifts for clean-up, if available/willing). Minimum age: 13.
