From the Director's Chair
By Tom Welch
It CAN Be Done
In this edition of LLA we are announcing the chapters throughout the nation that have qualified thus far as special “Houghteling Chapters.” What is a Houghteling Chapter? Who was Br. Houghteling? Br. Houghteling was the founder of our ministry back in 1883 at St. James Cathedral in Chicago. Those chapters that carry this special recognition as Houghteling Chapters are ones that have 75% or more of their rostered members current with dues.
In upcoming LLA’s we will focus part of the edition on success stories that have spurred the level of commitment to achieve this status. The first chapter to receive the highlight will be Chapter #2379S (the 2,379 chapter to charter) Christ Episcopal Church in Covington, Louisiana. Once chartered, a chapter keeps the number in perpetuity. Chapters are assigned numbers in chronological order from Chapter #0001S, St. James in Chicago. The "S" clarifies that the chapter is a "Senior" --meaning members are 21 years of age or older--chapter.
Christ Church was re-chartered (original charter in the 1920’s) early in the pandemic. That’s right, during 2022 this chapter came back to life with over 25 members More members from the church than that are now members. My thanks to Gary Taylor, now Diocesan Coordinator for the Diocese of Louisiana, for reaching out to me in 2019 to talk about our ministry at their men’s retreat. Thanks also to Br. Tom Martin, National VP for Growth, Renewal and Development, for the time he spent with the brothers down there as well. These things take time. The pandemic pushed the timeline down much further.
Brothers, despite all the naysayers about growth in the church today, IT CAN BE DONE. Christ Church/Covington, Louisiana, is just one example. Stay tuned for their success story in our next edition. And stay tuned as we continue to focus on Houghteling Chapters in every edition.

WE WANT YOU TO BE ON OUR TEAM!
Sustaining Members refers to those Brothers who make a routine, recurring monthly (or quarterly) donation over and above their annual ministry dues or a Life Membership. As a non-profit, 501c3 organization, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew depends on your support to bring Christ to men and youth throughout God’s kingdom.
Many Brothers do make additional donations throughout the year (Ex: special appeals, purchase of the Sweepstakes tickets, etc.), but this is a pledged commitment of recurring donations in a regular, consistent recurring donation throughout the year. It represents a commitment to financially support our ministry continuously throughout the year.
To join this important team, commit to a $5 or $10 (or more!) monthly donation by either mailing a monthly check with the memo "recurring donation" to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew National Office at P.O. 1382, Louisville, KY 40201 or make a recurring donation online with a credit or debit card or PayPal at
https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ZTS6U2C8AK75N
Make sure you check the "Make this a monthly donation" box after you enter the monthly amount! (see graphic below) Your monthly contribution is important, if not critical, to the ongoing vitality of our ministry to men and youth.

Thanks be to these Brothers for their current commitment to financially support our ministry
throughout the year.
