From the Director's Chair
By Executive Director Tom Welch
Just this morning we received our third request in two weeks about a church interested in forming a new chapter and/or re-chartering one that had gone dormant in the past. This speaks to the excitement, the desire, and the commitment NOT to just “let things continue to wither” to the point of no return.
As you may know, I am a resident student at Virginia Theological Seminary this year. One of the things we get to enjoy every week here at VTS from faculty, students and guests is a spirit of hope for the church, a commitment to discipleship empowerment to the laity. This morning, I met the Dean of St. Andrew’s Seminary from Manila, Philippines. The Very Rev. Dr. Gloria Mapangdol was the guest homilist and will be on campus for a few weeks. After chapel this morning I introduced myself and handed her my Brotherhood business card. She smiled as she looked at it. We will have a meal together soon. You see, there are around five thousand active members of the Brotherhood over there among the seven dioceses. My hope is to help build a better connection between our two hemispheres. This may be a starting point. I bid your prayers for the renewal and revival of our ministry not just here in the USA, but globally.
Closer to home, we have Diocesan events where I will be with you out in the vineyard. For example, this weekend I’ll be with the Diocese of Texas at Trinity Church for a workshop there in the Houston area. Leading into that event I will be representing you during a portion of the national conference for the Episcopal Parish Network (epn.org). The goal as I am among our members is to listen twice as much or more than I talk. At the BStA national board level we want to be with you physically as often as possible and the budget permits. It’s been proven time and time again that’s the best way for us to build energy and grow.
We have another excellent webinar for you this evening. I hope you will attend. The link is found in this edition. I have also found some remarkable, connectible moments on a spiritual level when we gather for our mid-day prayers every Wednesday at NOON/central. Come join us for those 15 minutes and see what I mean.
Please feel free to contact me about being in your diocese this year. I can provide workshops, homilies, a very poor showing on a golf course, and the opportunity to grow with you as we walk with our Lord together.

Great Crowd at St. John’s Cathedral**
Jacksonville, Florida
By Rob Wilmink
A record crowd came to St John’s Cathedral for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner. The lively hungry crowd dined on pancakes with every toppings imaginable, sausages, and various casseroles. The crowd was entertained with Mardi Gras trivia while they ate and good company and fellowship was had by all. We enjoyed our “final feast” in preparation for our 40 days of fasting and prayer which began the next day at our three Ashing services.
My favorite part of lent is reflection. I can reflect and pray over the year behind me and I can reflect and pray over the year ahead. I always ask the same question. “Am I sharing the Good news of Jesus Christ”? This year I added ... in a positive way. My Lenten sacrifice is Anger. I am giving up the anger I have deep inside me for the state of the world, for the ugliness in politics and in our elections and the judgmental-ness of those who hate. I am going to pray daily, “God, grant peace in my soul, compassion in my actions and love in my heart. It’s simple. Christ said, “Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself." I aim to do just that.
Amen
**Editor’s Note: The Brotherhood Chapter at St. John’s was the 97th chapter to ever charter (in 1887) and is one of the most tenured active chapters in the country. The next new chapter to charter will be the 5,461st chapter! Will you be the one to help make this happen?

Texas Assembly at Diocesan Council
The Texas Assembly of the Brotherhood of St Andrew purchased a booth in the Exhibitor Hall at Diocesan Council this year in Waco, Texas. We had a good location near the entrance and lunch was also served in this hall, which increased our traffic. We spoke to many people about the Brotherhood and the benefits of having a chapter at their church.
We promoted the Texas Assembly projects of the Fall Boys Retreat, our Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser, and our Scholarship program. The Scholarship program has expanded this year to provide $6000 in three Scholarships to high school seniors. We had 75 Scholarship brochures and gave out 71 to interested attendees!
We also collected leads from several churches that were interested in the Brotherhood to start a chapter. And we developed several other churches to contact regarding the Brotherhood. Overall, we collected 9 leads to spread Christ’s Kingdom!
Many thanks to the following Brothers who participated: Chris Matthews, Don Neely, and Peter Gilmour.
The Brotherhood promotes the spread of Christ's Kingdom among men and youth through the disciplines of daily prayer, regular study and continuous service. All men and youth are welcome to attend our meetings at Good Shepherd Friendswood, TX which are regularly held at 10 a.m. in Shepherd's Hall as well as on Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Contact Good Shepherd Chapter Director, Peter Gilmour at 480-206-9242 or ptrglmr7@gmail.com.

Recognizing Our
Sustaining Members
Sustaining Members refers to Brothers who have committed to offering a monthly (or quarterly) donation to the Brotherhood over and above their regular Sr. Membership dues or a Life Membership.
Many of us do make additional donations throughout the year (Ex: special appeals, purchase of the Sweepstakes tickets, etc.), but this a pledged commitment of recurring donations in a regular, consistent recurring donation throughout the year. It represents a commitment to financially support our ministry continuously throughout the year.
Thanks be to these Brothers for their commitment to financially supporting our ministry
throughout the year.
Br. James Miller, Br. John Streeter, Br. David Adams,
Br. Evans Clements, Rev. Br. Ellis Clifton, Br. Nick Cox, Br. Cecil Buxo, Br. Walt Joyce, Br. Leland Metheney,
Br. Louis Surles, Br. John Blossom, Br. Eric Fisher,
Rev. Br. John Thompson-Quartey, Br. Arthur Simpson, Br. Oliver Evans, Br. Peter Gilmour, Br. Ken Holloway, Br. Roy Benavides, Br. Conrad Jones, Br. Ed Milbrada, Br. Ray Talbird, Br. George Shumard, Br. Jeff Butcher, Br. Tom Simpson, Br. Dick Hooper, Br. Eric Haralson, Br. Tom Welch, Rev. Br. Ed Bartle, Br. David Penley,
Br. John Fitzgerald, Br. Billy Harrison, Br. Tom Nichols.
Can you commit to a $5 or $10/month (or more) donation to this ministry and community of men that you belong to? Many brothers also make an annual contribution above dues. It is important, if not critical, to the ongoing vitality of our ministry to men and youth. If you'd like to discuss more, email us by clicking here:
