VOICING ACTOR AUDITION INFO

We are casting 8 Voicing Actors - one for every Deaf actor in our stage ensemble to make the ASL accessible for non-signing audience members.


  • ASL receptive skills will give you a casting advantage but not required.
  • You must live in Los Angeles - rehearsals and shows are at the

Group Rep Theatre in North Hollywood

  • You must be available full time July 31 - August 13.
  • Group Rep is Equity Waiver (you can be union or non-union), but we're paying $600 flat fee from our grant ($300/week.)

AUDIO SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Choose one or two videos below to voice (this is a general audition - you may be called back for a different actor.) ASL users - choose at least one non-captioned video.
  2. You can voice for any actor below. Callbacks will match you to type.
  3. You do not need to follow the captions or the timing of the captions. They are there as a suggested guide and for non-signers.
  4. Watch the video on one device and record audio only (don't send any video) on a second device. You can use the Voice Memo app on your phone or Quicktime Player audio recording. Send a separate MP4 or WAV file for each actor you're voicing.
  5. Slate your name, city, ASL experience (it's ok to say none) and what actor you are voicing.
  6. Change the name of your finished audio files to your name and the Deaf actor you're voicing.
  7. Email a maximum of 2 voice auditions to NotAnotherDeafStory@gmail.com
  8. Deadline is 6PM PT on June 15th.


We are looking for the following:

  • Vocal quality
  • Timing/Pacing
  • Inflection (should sound like a person/character - not someone reading)
  • Sense of humor
  • English translation choices
  • ASL receptive skills strongly preferred but not required

Amber Zion - Fremont, CA

Stage Ensemble Cast


Amber Zion is a professional actor with experience in theater and film, and has the ability to give unparalleled life to a diverse range of characters. Her first appearance on TV was CBS’s CSI:NY and was featured in a Kay Jeweler commercial. Amber continued to hone her craft in films and theater and the most recent productions were with Deaf West Theatre, “At home at the Zoo,” where she shared the stage with Awards winning actor, Troy Kotsur at The Wallis in Beverly Hills, other one with Victory Hall Opera in Charlottesville, Virginia, “Orpheus & Erica, the Deaf Opera.” Amber is known for performing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful at SuperBowl in 2014 at New Jersey. Her most recent film was the festival winners, “What?,” directed by Alek Lev where she worked alongside with John Maucere. Amber is also an artist and during her down time, she enjoyed doing art and crafts business in San Francisco.

Tommy Korn - Riverside, CA

Stage Ensemble Cast


Tommy is a Los Angeles-born performance artist. He has worked/performed as an ASL instructor, actor, model, designer, writer, storyteller and drag performer. He currently teaches ASL at Riverside City College and served as an ASL master at Gallaudet University Theatre. Television, stage, and film credits include FOX’s Glee and CBS’s CSI: Las VegasThe Adventures of PinocchioStories by Shel and ASImprov! at Deaf West Theatre; Black Sand by Mark Woods of ASLFilms; The Robinsons by DeBee Productions; and shorts including Pittsburgh by Rory Dering, Reverse Polarity by Jules Dameron, and Cig by Sean Berdy. Tommy has worked with multiple expressive art companies including cARTel and Deaf Granny Kitchen. He enjoys designing, styling, modeling, creating content, and collaborating with photographers and designers on set.

Marc Bowman - Los Angeles, CA

Stage Ensemble Cast


Marc Bowman was born in Fayetteville, NC, raised in Atlanta, GA, graduated from the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, DC, and now resides in Los Angeles, CA. Marc is an acclaimed Deaf performance artist, and has toured nationally and internationally with the Wild Zappers/NDDT and Quest4Arts/Quest Visual Theatre. His television credits include two Emmy award-winning series: FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance? (1st Season – Top 75), and NBC’s ER. Marc is dedicated to improving and inspiring people from all backgrounds through his teaching work and awareness- building performances. He also serves on the Special Education Committee for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Marc enjoys family time with his Deaf children, Aaliyah and Andre, as well as music, reading, sports, chess, and roller skating.

Brian Llanes - Miami, FL

Film Ensemble Cast


Brian is an aspiring Deaf actor, who lives in Miami, FL. He’s always loved acting and telling stories. He studied acting in high school and worked backstage at Gallaudet University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. In his youth, Brian created storytelling shorts in ASL on YouTube, and, today, does improvisational comedy on a daily basis, (just to get his point across!). Brian has taught math, (primarily), to private clients and in the classroom. His family originally immigrated from Cuba. His mother is Deaf and his immediate family uses ASL, while his extended family speaks Spanish. Brian enjoys creating stories with unique characters, studying anything of interest, playing video games, running, biking, skateboarding, and any sort of physical activity.

Mary Kim Hoang - New Orleans, LA

Stage Ensemble Cast


Mary Kim Hoang is a Deaf Vietnamese American from New Orleans, LA. As a child, she performed in the ASL choir and numerous productions at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge. In New Orleans, she spent several seasons on stage with The Company: a St. Bernard Community Theatre; been featured in several tv commercials; and has appeared as background talent in dozens of films and television series playing characters from the 1920’s to today. Her favorite acting credits include Hairspray for The Company and 2019’s Troop Zero. She is also a dancer with the Sirens of New Orleans. Mary loves movies, especially classic films. She is thrilled to be working with a Deaf theater ensemble, and is grateful to her family and friends for their support.
