Every Woman’s Life (EWL) is a public health program that helps uninsured, low income women gain access to free breast and cervical cancer screening services. Screening and early detection reduces death rates, improves treatment options, and greatly increases survival. To be eligible, women must be a Virginia resident between the ages of 18-64, meet federal income guidelines and be uninsured. Women 18-39 must be symptomatic or be determined to be high risk for breast and/or cervical cancer to be eligible. Services provided by the program include a clinical breast exam, mammogram, pelvic exam, Pap test, and any diagnostics needed to reach a final diagnosis. If a woman enrolled in EWL is diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer she may be eligible for Medicaid to pay for treatment.

In 2011, Sepsis Alliance designated September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Every September since, we’ve invited individuals, healthcare professionals in every area of medicine, and organizations big and small to help save lives by raising awareness of the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals – sepsis.
Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection that affects 1.7 million people and takes 350,000 adult lives in the U.S. every year.
The “Sepsis is a Medical Emergency” Fact Sheet can be used by any organization to educate individuals, family and caregivers to increase awareness and action around Sepsis. There is also a space to drop in a logo. Spread the word. It can save a life!

The FBI’s Community Outreach Program supports the Bureau’s investigative mission by working to address multiple interrelated societal problems—including crime, drugs, gangs, terrorism, and violence. Linking community service, prevention, and law enforcement is a national trend motivated by local efforts (like yours!) around the country, and FBI employees have joined this movement, volunteering in a wide variety of community-related efforts.

RESEARCH PAIN. MANAGE PAIN.
The U.S. Pain Foundation seeks to raise awareness about pain research and its impact on the more than 51.6 million Americans living with chronic pain during Pain Awareness Month.
The initiative, #PainTrials, will break down pain research and show the real-life impact research has on individuals living with pain. We are honored to be collaborating with the National Institutes of Health on a variety of initiatives throughout the month, with NIH participation in our webinars, articles, support group meetings, and more.
On this page, you’ll find all the information you need to become involved this Pain Awareness Month with #PainTrials.

Returning to School After an Emergency or Disaster
Teachers and early care and education (ECE) providers have an important role to play in helping children both prepare for and recover after a public health emergency. Public health emergencies and disasters affect millions of children worldwide each year. These emergencies and disasters include natural events (such as severe weather, earthquakes, fires, floods, and tsunamis) and man-made events (such as acts of terrorism).

You Can Help CDC Solve Foodborne Outbreaks
Ask your healthcare provider if you should be tested for a foodborne disease. They can take a sample of your poop or blood and test it. Many healthcare providers are now using rapid tests that give a result quickly, often while you wait in the office.
Some test results (without information that identifies you) are sent to PulseNet. PulseNet is a database at CDC that looks for similar foodborne germs to identify outbreaks. Learn more about how outbreak investigators use test results to link an illness to an outbreak. Promptly reporting your illness helps your local or state health department identify foodborne outbreaks. Health departments track reports of illnesses and look for groups of people who have similar illnesses and ate the same foods.
