COVID-19 vaccines are now recommended for children 5-11 years old.
|
|
Based on the data that Pfizer-BioNTech submitted to the FDA on September 18, 2021, we know that:
- The dose is one-third of the Pfizer dose administered to people 12 years and older.
- The study included 2,268 participants who were 5 to 11 years old.
- Side effects were similar to those seen in people 12 years and older.
- Immune response was similar to those seen in people 12 years and older.

|
What are COVID-19 Boosters?
Many vaccines require a booster. This one helps keep your
immune system strong against COIVD-19.
|
|
Find Your Vaccine Booster
If you are eligible, you can receive a booster dose wherever vaccines are available. Options include community vaccination clinics, your healthcare provider, or a pharmacy.
Talk with your health care provider to see if a booster is right for you.

The Shadow Pandemic: Violence against women during COVID-19
|
|
"Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified.
"This is the Shadow Pandemic growing amidst the COVID-19 crisis and we need a global collective effort to stop it. As COVID-19 cases continue to strain health services, essential services, such as domestic violence shelters and helplines, have reached capacity. More needs to be done to prioritize addressing violence against women in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
"UN Women provides up-to-date information and support to vital programs to fight the Shadow Pandemic of violence against women during COVID-19."

World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.
Over 105,200 people are living with HIV in the UK. Globally, there are an estimated 38 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS related illnesses, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”
|
|
National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
In an average year, 30 million Americans drive drunk, and 10 million Americans drive impaired by illicit drugs.
December seems particularly suited to this observation because traffic fatalities that involve impaired drivers increase significantly during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday periods.
On average, 25 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes per day during December 2010.

At Massey Cancer Center (MCC), everything we do starts with people. Our mission is to reduce the state’s cancer burden for all Virginians. Massey works with partners to develop ongoing health promotion and wellness priorities to address health equity and to make people's lives easier, safer, and better.
Massey’s community seed grant is a mechanism for community partners and non-profit organizations to address person-centered care across the cancer continuum, from health promotion and prevention through survivorship, and reduce suffering from cancer for citizens in Massey's catchment (geographical) area.
$5,000 seed grants will be awarded for up to seven distinct projects in a twelve-month funding cycle. Only one application per organization will be accepted. Once a project is awarded, a project period extension will not be approved (no-cost extensions are not allowed). Grants are renewable for organizations that demonstrate measurable outcomes and describe dissemination and sustainable plans.
