Prince William School Board rescinds testing mandate for unvaccinated staff

Hours after the General Assembly made masks for all Virginia public school students optional, the Prince William County School Board voted Wednesday to rescind a weekly COVID-19 testing mandate for unvaccinated division staff. School board members said that the testing, which was implemented after supply-related delays on Jan.

4 juveniles taken into custody after fight at Southside STEM Academy

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk police said they took four juveniles into custody and charges are pending after a fight Monday afternoon at Southside STEM Academy. Police responded to the school, located at 1106 Campostella Road, around 12:15 p.m. Monday. Four kids were taken into custody. Police did not release their ages.

Albemarle County studies options for Lambs Lane campus

Albemarle County school division's Lambs Lane campus, which serves one-fourth of the school system's population, is an inaccessible and confusing collection of buildings but school officials hope that will change. Plans are in the works to determine how best to improve the area, which includes Albemarle High, Jack Jouett Middle, Greer Elementary and Ivy Creek schools as well as the building services and transportation departments.

Arlington Public Schools may pause virtual learning program next school year

The Arlington School Board will meet at 7 p. m. Thursday to discuss a proposal to pause the school district’s virtual learning program for the next school year. School leadership said the current program is falling short of Arlington Public School’s vision of a “full range of academic and social-emotional services” for virtual students.

Frederick County School Board moves toward making meeting recordings available

WINCHESTER - To be more transparent, the Frederick County School Board on Tuesday expressed support for making video recordings of their meetings available to the public. The meetings are livestreamed on YouTube, but they are not made available for viewing afterward. Several community members have complained about video recordings of board meetings not being available.

Harrisonburg schools to make masks optional for students

By Bridget Manley, publisher Masks will be optional for students in Harrisonburg City Schools starting March 1, Superintendent Michael Richards said Tuesday. Speaking to the Harrisonburg School Board during Tuesday's work session, Richards said although the district will "strongly recommend" mask wearing, a new law passed by both the Virginia Senate and the House of Delegates will not allow school boards to have mask mandates for schools.

Virginia Education Broadband Grant

Valued up to $30,000- Applications must be received by February 18, 2022

In honor of VSBA’s 115th Anniversary, a thank you for your work as school board members, and in service to Virginia’s children: Kajeet partnered with VSBA to announce the first-ever Virginia Education Broadband Grant program. This funding opportunity will help school board members continue the important work being done to ensure all students have digital learning access at school and at home.


In total, Kajeet will award over $250,000 in broadband services to Virginia school

boards to solve the digital divide and ensure that all students have access to learn, anytime, anywhere.


Kajeet will award 9 winners (one per VSBA region). Award winners will be announced at VSBA Regional meetings this Spring. To learn more information and to submit your application visit the link below.
