Measure would allow ads on Va. school buses to support driver recruitment

A measure being patroned by a freshman legislator would allow local school districts to advertise the hiring of bus drivers on the buses themselves. The measure - HB 452 - was introduced by Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker (D-Alexandria-Arlington-Fairfax).

Teacher union calls for more COVID resources amid chaos over mask mandates

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield Education Associations met Monday morning, calling on district leaders to keep masks mandatory for all students and faculty while on school grounds. In all of these cases, mask mandates are already enforced.

Charlottesville and statewide school construction funding bills clear Virginia Senate

Virginia state senators signed off on a bill Monday to allow Charlottesville to ask voters for a raise in the local sales tax in order to pay for school construction projects. Under Senate Bill 298, the city would be able to increase the general retail sales tax by up to 1% if voters approve the measure in a referendum.

Hampton joins 6 Virginia school districts in lawsuit over Youngkin's mask order

HAMPTON - Hampton's school division joined six others in a lawsuit against Gov. Glenn Youngkin, seeking to overturn his controversial executive order against school mask mandates. In a motion filed Monday, the boards asked the court to issue a temporary injunction to restore the "status quo" for the remaining school year.

NCEA recently conducted a teacher morale survey - results suggest that teachers need advocating for now more than ever. Survey respondents echoed the same symptoms that educators across the nation are experiencing: severe fatigue, stress and burnout related to overwork, teacher turnover and ever-evolving pandemic challenges.
