Northern Virginia Health Directors urge area schools to maintain universal indoor masking

The Northern Virginia Health Directors are recommending schools maintain universal indoor masking as a way to maximize all COVID-19 mitigation measures amid a surge in community infections in the region, according to a Dec. 30 letter from region health directors to school superintendents.

Perdue Farms donates $60,000 to open STEM Centers at Eastern Shore schools

Perdue Foundation. Roanoke County schools to become mask-optional if Youngkin cancels public health order

The Roanoke County School Board voted to propose a change to its student mask policy at the Tuesday night work session. It was proposed by newly-elected school board member Cheryl Facciani who preempted the policy under what she says is an expected announcement from Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin to cancel certain public health orders after his inauguration next weekend.

New Members Sworn In To Alexandria School Board

ALEXANDRIA, VA - On Tuesday, the Alexandria School Board held a virtual induction ceremony for new and returning members to take oaths of office. Many of the Alexandria School Board's members are new after the Nov. 2 election. The School Board is made up of nine representatives, three each from District A, District B and District C.

Legislature could force APS to reinstate school-resource officers

The Arlington School Board would be required to reinstate school-resource officers at local schools under legislation to be considered in the upcoming General Assembly session. Educators call on RRHA to pause evictions to help children in schools

Despite the omicron variant and spiking COVID-19 cases, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority announced it will resume filing evictions against public housing residents this month. Two prominent Richmond educators are calling on the authority to halt evictions of families with school-age children until June.

Virus forces shutdown of Mecklenburg schools | SoVaNOW: Home of The News & Record and The Mecklenburg Sun

Mecklenburg County Public Schools will be closed through Monday, Jan. 10 due to spiking COVID-19 caseloads in the area. The school division announced the shutdown of schools for the rest of the week on Tuesday, after the planned resumption of school following the holidays was put on pause by the winter storm that swept through the area on Monday.

Henrico Schools quarantine protocols remain unchanged - for now | The Henrico Citizen

No changes to COVID-19 safety protocols came as a result of the Henrico County Public Schools health committee meeting Monday that was highly anticipated by many teachers and parents. The committee reviewed the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the general public - which shortened the recommended isolation time for people with COVID-19 to five days.
