Lynchburg City School Board meeting gets heated over mask requirements

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) - The Lynchburg City School Board meeting on Tuesday started off heated before the school officials even took their seats. The school board required people to wear masks inside the building, but three people attended the meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7 without a mask.

HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - A Highland County School Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled. Arlington school official apologizes for 'frustrating' start to virtual learning | WTOP

An Arlington Public Schools official has apologized for a "frustrating" and "unacceptable" start to the Virginia school district's virtual learning program amid criticism from parents. Parents of around 700 students who signed up for distance learning report their kids didn't get schedules, had classes that didn't have assigned teachers and were sometimes funneled into unsupervised mixed grade "virtual waiting rooms" where younger students were bullied by older students.

Williamsburg-JCC School Board discusses public comments following break in policy at previous meeting

Several members said the school board has policies in place in order to prevent things from getting out of hand. These policies include calling a recess, removing people who are not in compliance, limiting public comment to 3-minutes per individual and allocating 30 minutes of public comment per meeting.

Franklin County students return to class after three schools reopen following coronavirus-related closures.

Three public schools in Franklin County -- Benjamin Franklin Middle School, the Gereau Center, and Franklin County High School -- switched to virtual learning for Friday, Sept. 3 to allow the buildings to be thoroughly cleaned after a number of students and staff members tested positive for COVID-19, forcing others into quarantine.
