Spotsylvania School Board approves $1,000 bonus for staff

The Spotsylvania County School Board has approved a $1,000 one-time bonus for all staff as part of a spending plan for $14.6 million in funds left over from last year's budget. School Board members Kirk Twigg, Lisa Phelps and Rabih Abuismail voted against the bonus and the spending plan, but did not explain why.

Bedford County puts pedal to the metal to solve school bus driver shortage

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - Bedford County Public Schools is part of a growing trend across the county - they don't have enough bus drivers to transport children. "Unfortunately, we've had to cancel on some bus routes, particularly over the past month, and that puts it on mom and dad to get their children to and from school, which could be a real hardship on our families," said Bedford's Superintendent Dr. Marc Bergin.

Virginia Beach high school students create wind, solar-powered holiday light display at Oceanfront

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Visitors to the BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights at the Beach will see a unique addition this year: a wind and solar-powered light display. This particular display, located near 17th Street, is one of many other light displays at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront's Boardwalk; however, the others are not powered by a wind turbine.

Norfolk Public Schools to install water bottle filling stations, replacing closed water fountains

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - After closing water fountains due to health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, students at Norfolk Public Schools will soon have another option to stay hydrated. School officials are expected to replace closed water fountains at all schools with water bottle-filling stations.
