Richmond Public Schools facing potential $19.5 million budget deficit

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Public Schools is facing a $19.5 million deficit and some tough decisions right now about how to move forward with a budget. "We would need to cut another $12 million out of our budget," said Jason Kamras, Richmond Public Schools Superintendent.

Masks will stay on for Manassas teachers

Manassas City Public Schools will keep staff masked for now, despite the new state law and division policy granting students choice in whether they will wear masks. On Tuesday night, the city's School Board voted unanimously to maintain the staff mask mandate, citing the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry's infectious disease standard, which says public employers should continue to require masks for staff during what's considered a "high risk" environment.

Proposed Fairfax Co. FY 2023 budget includes school funding, employee compensation package | WTOP News

Leaders in Fairfax County, Virginia, got their first presentation of the proposed budget for fiscal year 2023, and it includes fully funding the school district's request and an employee compensation package. County Executive Bryan Hill presented the FY 2023 Budget to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday, and he said that he is cautiously optimistic that the county is turning a corner on the pandemic and heading to economic recovery.
