Charlottesville School Board names Dinwiddie administrator next superintendent

After a summer of searching, the Charlottesville School Board found its next superintendent in 115 miles away in Dinwiddie County. Royal A. Gurley, Jr., assistant superintendent for academic services in Dinwiddie County, was named as Charlottesville's superintendent at the beginning of Thursday's School Board meeting. Chesterfield County Public Schools report over 200 COVID-19 cases since the start of school last week

As of Wednesday afternoon, Chesterfield County Public Schools surpassed 200 COVID-19 cases among students and staff, according to the district's daily coronavirus dashboard. Of the 204 recorded cases as of 1 p.m. Wednesday, the district's eighth day of school, 176 cases were reported among students, with the remaining 28 splits between staff, transportation, central office, and virtual learning staff.

Campbell County Public Schools reinstates COVID-19 dashboard, reports nearly 100 cases

Campbell County Public Schools has seen nearly 100 cases of COVID-19 since beginning its school year just more than two weeks ago. According to their COVID-19 dashboards, as of Wednesday, Lynchburg City Schools has reported 46 cases, Bedford County Public Schools has reported 131 cases, Amherst County Public Schools has reported 80 cases and Nelson County Public Schools has reported 14 cases since the beginning of the school year.

Loudoun County Public Schools will require student-athletes to be vaccinated, district says

Athletes participating in the five fall sports within VHSL (football, cheer, cross country, volleyball and golf) are not subject to the vaccination requirement. LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. - Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) student-athletes will have to be vaccinated to compete as part of teams at schools in the district, according to a news release.
