Using words such as "illegal" and "authoritarian," a group of Virginia Democrats and parents of schoolchildren gathered in Richmond on Monday to criticize Gov. Glenn Youngkin's executive order dropping mask mandates in the commonwealth's schools, and saying it would disrupt the very return to in-person learning that all sides want to achieve.

Fifteen Henrico County Public Schools teachers recently earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for the first time, while seven others renewed their certifications. News 3 met with school district leaders here in Williamsburg, and they said they're looking to fill more than 150 positions just for full-time teachers. But as they also try and fill these empty spots, William and Mary students are stepping in to help.

Fauquier public schools will hold an in-person spelling bee at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Fauquier High auditorium.
