Councill, Powell named to Franklin City School Board - The Tidewater News

The Franklin City Council appointed two new members of the Franklin City School Board during the June 27 council meeting, with Arwen Councill being named to the Ward 2 seat by a 6-0 vote and Brittany Powell being named to the Ward 5 seat by a 5-1 vote.

21 Hopewell High School seniors graduate with an associate degree along with their diploma

PETERSBURG - A total of 21 seniors from Hopewell High School graduated with an associate degree alongside their high school diploma this year. In partnership with the Richard Bland College of William and Mary, Hopewell High School students are able to enroll into dual enrollment courses and receive college credit upon completion.

Scholarship fund established in name of Julia Budzinski, Glen Allen student who died

A memorial scholarship fund has been established in the name of Julia Budzinski, the 17-year-old Glen Allen High School student who died July 2 in a boating accident on the James River, by the Budzinski family. The Julia Budzinski Memorial Scholarship Fund will honor her legacy by supporting the Glen Allen High School community, its students and other beneficiaries.

Two Elkton Students Place First In Nation In FCCLA Competition

Breelyn Williams and Avery Hilbert were standing on the stage at the FCCLA 2022 National Competition in San Diego with nine other groups waiting to hear where they placed in the event management competition. The two Elkton Middle School eighth-graders knew they had placed in the Top 10.

RCPS Sees Decrease In Lunch Debt

Thanks to a combination of grants and waivers for meal prices over the past few years, Rockingham County Public Schools has reduced its lunch debt from $3,000 this time last year to $700 this year.

Henrico County Public Schools host job fair for the 2022-23 school year

HENRICO Co., Va. (WWBT) - Henrico County Public Schools are looking to fill positions for the upcoming school year with a job fair. The county is seeking teachers, substitute teachers, bus drivers, school nutrition staff members and custodial workers. The school division offers a bonus for newly hired bus drivers up to $3,000 paid in installments throughout the year.

CATEC in need of building trades instructor

A national shortage in skilled workers in the construction industry has left a key instructor position at the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center vacant for the coming school year. CATEC has not yet found an qualified instructor to lead its Building Trades program, director Stephanie Carter said.
