Voters decide Botetourt, Franklin school board races, reelect Salem sheriff

David has said he wasn't familiar with the history of the at-large seat, which was added in 1971 to what was at that time a seven-member board. He also said the skin color of an office holder shouldn't matter. David captured 64% of the vote.

Bristol, Virginia Schools to host COVID vaccine town hall, clinic

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) - Now that the COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for children 5-11 years old, Bristol, Virginia Public Schools is planning to hold a virtual information session followed by a vaccine clinic. The school system says the first information town hall will take place virtually in partnership with the Mount Rogers Health District.

Charlottesville schools to raise substitute pay to $20 an hour

Charlottesville school administrators will propose raising the hourly rate of substitute teachers and lowering the minimum qualifications in an effort to recruit more substitutes, though it's unclear exactly how many more people are needed. "We want our principals to be able to tell us we are getting the coverage we need," said Beth Baptist, the school system's interim director of human resources.

Henry County parents continue to complain about mask mandate

Six people spoke at the beginning of the regular Henry County School Board meeting Thursday morning, and most of them argued against the use of masks in the schools. "How long are you going to make students keep wearing masks," Jennifer Jones asked the board members.

Richmond and Henrico Health Districts partnering with schools to offer COVID-19 vaccination clinics

(WRIC) - The Richmond and Henrico Health District is partnering with Richmond Public Schools and Henrico County Public Schools to offer weekend COVID-19 vaccination events for 5 to 11-year-olds. RHHD said these clinics offer parents an option to get their children vaccinated that is already familiar to their families.

Write-in votes abound, leaving race for Bedford County School Board District 2 seat too close to call

With nearly 2,600 write-in votes cast in the race for the District 2 seat on the Bedford County School Board, Tuesday night's results are too close to name a winner. Incumbent Jason Johnson won 2,149 votes, or 45.3%, with the remaining 54.7%, or 2,595 votes, cast for write-in candidates.
