Ripple Effects
Protect Dane County Lakes, Rivers, and Streams!
Your actions have ripple effects, do your part to help protect the local waters.

Lawn Care: keep lawn clippings out of the roadway so they do not end up in the storm sewer causing drainage issues and pollute our waters causing excessive algal growth.

Rain Barrels: capturing rainwater from your rooftop is a smart way to lower your water bill and protect our lakes, streams and rivers. Harvested rainwater is free of chloride, fluoride, and other additives often found in municipal water, making it a great option for water your lawn, plants and gardens.
Wash Vehicles on Your Lawn: When you wash on concrete, soapy runoff travels through storm drains and directly into rivers untreated. This can harm fish, plants and other aquatic life and can cause irreversible damage. The ground works as a natural filter for pollutants by neutralizing harsh chemicals used in soaps and cleaners.
