Many of you saw the posts on Facebook about Lelia's injury late last week. Lelia was seriously injured while setting up the Challenge Course Friday morning. In her fall she damaged 2 vertebrae, which severely damaged her spinal cord causing her doctors to give her a diagnosis of permanent paralysis in her legs. She is remaining remarkably positive as she moves forward with treatment.
She is still hospitalized in La Crosse, but is not open to visitors yet as her family has arrived from Texas, Colorado and Washington. She has a long journey ahead and is investigating rehab options, including Texas to be near her parents.
If you would like to send a card, please mail it to
Lelia Shoemaker, 1588 Drake Road, Lansing, IA 52151. We will be sure to get it to her and will update her address change when it is time. Please continue to pray for her in her recovery as she manages pain and works with her medical team.
Thank you for the outpouring of your love - for Lelia and for the camp staff - during this challenging time. We so appreciate your love, notes, prayers, and support.
