March marked a major milestone for our young non-profit organization. That’s when Megan* and her two kids moved into their very own home – the first of 10 that VCW is building in Takesa Village – a resident-owned manufactured home community in Mead.
These homes will be sold at cost to qualified low-income buyers, allowing owners to create equity, stability and community. Learn more about our unique funding model here.
Homeownership has been life-changing for Megan and her family, who were once on the brink of homelessness due to skyrocketing rent prices and low housing inventory. “It’s hard to believe it’s ours,” she said. “I don’t think I can thank all of the people who worked on this enough. It’s amazing and such a big blessing for us.”
Megan, who works in the public school system, also put in the work to make this happen, attending 7 hours of classes on everything from budgeting to home maintenance.
Seeing their daughter in secure, stable housing is monumental for Megan’s parents. “We are so thankful for VCW and what they are doing to help our community as well. It brings me to tears with what you were able to make happen, but also the kindness/guidance that was shown to our daughter was beyond what we could have ever hoped for.”
