A Spotlight on Veteran Enriched Neighborhoods®

The annual WE Build on Saturday, May 11th was truly a remarkable day filled with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Volunteers came together to raise money and tackle projects totaling $102,651.38, working on a variety of impactful initiatives for the next six homes in the Palmdale Veteran Enriched Neighborhood®. From creating art cutouts for our Trauma-Informed Art workshops to building benches and a shed for the community garden. Each task was approached with dedication and passion. Our wonderful volunteers went above and beyond by installing address numbers, access panels and plaques, meticulously measuring and installing caulk baseboards, constructing fences, initiating irrigation systems, painting the interiors of homes, and even pouring concrete on pathways! It was a day of meaningful progress and collective effort that truly showcased the power of community coming together for a common cause.

Construction Update

The Palmdale Veteran Enriched Neighborhood® project is progressing smoothly, with Phase 4 nearing completion and Phase 5 already having its foundations poured. Cabinets have already been installed in Phase 4 as we move towards our August 10 Key Ceremony. Furthermore, Phase 5 has successfully passed the sewer inspection, signifying that all necessary requirements have been met for the next phase of development to commence seamlessly.

The North Hollywood Veteran Enriched Neighborhood® project has made significant progress thanks to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers. The completion of the block wall is nearing, marking a major milestone in the construction process. We are excited to continue sharing updates on upcoming steps on this new project.

Spring Brunch

We are thrilled to share the wonderful news about our first-ever Spring Brunch held on April 27th. Families from the Palmdale community came together to join us for this event, which was an incredible opportunity for them to bond with their neighbors and create lasting relationships. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, joy, and unity as families enjoyed a delicious brunch and engaging conversations in a warm and welcoming environment. We are proud to have brought the community together in such a meaningful way and look forward to creating more opportunities for families to connect in the future. Thank you to Crazy Otto's for supplying brunch at reduced costs.

Ghost Army: A Legacy

Learn about the incredible work that our Board member Michael Klein's father was involved in during WWII. As a member of the Ghost Army, his top-secret unit's mission was to deceive the enemy. Michael accepted the Congressional Gold Medal in May on his father's behalf. You can view the film "The Ghost Army" on Amazon.com and it will be coming back to many PBS stations this month and June.

Assistance League of Antelope Valley

The Assistance League of Antelope Valley is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of Antelope Valley Families. They run programs such as "Operation School Bell," the "Commonality Program," and the "Education Program," all of which provide items and funding for those in need: students, domestic violence survivors, babies and children, homeless veterans, and more. We are very fortunate to have recently received a grant! This is on top of the individual move-in assistance that they provide to the veterans moving into our Palmdale Veteran Enriched Neighborhood®. Here are some of their generous and wonderful leaders, including H4F Board member Rose Rockey, at our recent Builder's Ball. Thank you!
