Worship on
October 18th
This Sunday morning we will worship together online focusing on how the body of the Church is like a school where we learn and grow in many different ways. Our scriptures will be Deuteronomy 6:1-9 and Matthew 11:28-30 and Rev. Dennis Foust, PhD, will share a message titled, "Fashion Me a People."
The worship video will be available at 8am via our YouTube channel and at our website under the Worship tab for you to view. You can also link to worship from the Realm Connect App Events list.

Women's Retreat:
Gathering in God's Love, Wherever We Are
We hope all of the women of St. John's will join us for this year's virtual women's retreat on Saturday, November 7 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. This year, we will focus on the ancient Hebrew story of “Returning from Exile." This story will serve as our guide for living as community in this modern day version of Exile and Return during the 2020 Pandemic.
Elements of this event will include the telling of this sacred story offered by Rev. Allison Benfield, break out groups for facilitated small group discussion, as well as large group summary of the experience.
Participants will receive resources ahead of the retreat to prepare. If you cannot participate in this year’s retreat on November 7, resources will also be available for you to use in your personal reflection time. We hope you will join us! Please invite any women you know who are currently outside of the St. John's community to join us. All are welcome.

DENNIS RESPONDS TO QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR OUTDOOR GATHERINGS
Why are we offering OUTDOOR gatherings the next few Sundays?
Well, first, we miss being with one another. Yes, we realize some of our members should not be in gatherings right now – even outdoors wearing face coverings at safe physical distances. Therefore, we fully understand that some cannot gather with us at this time. However, we are offering these opportunities to provide the people of St. John’s a few chances to be in one-another’s presence before the weather becomes too cold to do so. Second, praying together as a worshipping community and experiencing fellowship will be blessings to relish during this winter.
How do you Register?
You can register through the green buttons below in this very newsletter. Or, you can use Realm. On Realm go to “Events.” Click on “Register” for the Sunday event you wish to attend.
We are requiring registration for each event to stay under the 50 persons limit set as an outdoor safety standard by the CDC and being observed by our St. John’s COVID-19 Task Force. If you have trouble registering on Realm, please email Mallory at mbrown@sjcharlotte.org or Derek at dhenson@sjcharlotte.org prior to the event.
What Should You Bring and Where Should You Park?
Bring your own face covering and your own folding chair to all outdoor events. Each Sunday, we will gather in the Broach Hall parking lot. Please enter our parking lots from Fifth Street or Lamar. Our Hawthorne Lane driveway will be blocked to protect our gathering space. Please park in the lots near the Chapel Building and the Main Entrance.
What should you expect on the next few Sundays?
Sunday, October 18, from 5:00 to 5:30: Noel Lance will play familiar hymns on the keyboard and Kevin Gray will offer a solo. Lee Gray will lead us in an experience of congregational prayer, Allison Benfield and Nate Dove will read scriptures and Dennis will offer a Review and Forecast of Congregational Ministry plus a devotional moment focused upon encouragement.
Sunday, October 25, from 11:15 to 12 and from 12 to 12:45: Food trucks offer Barbeque and a beverage cart featuring lemonade and other refreshments. Menus can be visited prior to the event and are available on the registration tab in Realm.
Sunday, November 1, from 3 to 3:30 and from 4 to 4:30: We will observe All Saint’s Day with a memorial service focusing upon our members who have passed on ahead of us since this time last year. Candles, bells, and remembrances will be part of the service. Family members of those saints who have passed will be invited to gather for these meaningful moments.
Sunday, November 8, from 11:15 to 12 and from 12 to 12:45: Food trucks feature Beatz & Eatz and a Dessert cart. Menus can be visited prior to the event on the registration tab on Realm.
If you feel safe in doing so, I hope you will register for one or more of these outdoor events. I will enjoy being with you and I will enjoy seeing you enjoying one another.
Shalom,
Dennis
