Hello All!
Happy spring! It is nice to see the grass turning green and all the flowers popping.
We have a couple more great events coming up before we take a break for the summer including the UVM Engineering Design Night Poster Session and the Vermont Section Annual Meeting. Also included in this newsletter is the ballot for new board members. If you are a Vermont ASCE member, please take a minute to vote.
We would like to remind all Vermont Professional Engineers that there is a Vermont Energy Goals education requirement for professional license renewal due July 31, 2024. As indicated in the newsletter, we are seeking your input on this.
Stay tuned for more details and an invitation to the Annual Meeting and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about ASCE, would like to become more involved, or even if you would just like to connect.
Hope to see you soon!
Thank you,
Matt Estabrooks

REMINDER: "Energy Goals" Education Requirement for Professional License Renewal
In 2020, the General Assembly passed Act 178, which requires certain professionals licensed by OPR to complete an education module related to the State’s energy goals as a condition of license renewal. This requirement took effect on July 1, 2021 and applies to: (1) architects, (2) landscape architects, (3) pollution abatement facility operators, (4) water system designers, (5) professional engineers, (6) property inspectors, (7) real estate appraisers, and (8) real estate brokers and salespersons. The law also applies to some Vermonters licensed by other State agencies, such as the Department of Public Safety.
You can read the requirements here: https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/03/005/00138
In short, ahead of the July 31, 2024 biennial renewal, professional engineers in Vermont need to complete two hours of education regarding the State’s energy goals and any updates regarding corresponding State energy programs applicable to the profession.
There are various on-line courses that are marketed as meeting this requirement. We are seeking input from anyone that has completed the education requirement and/or has suggestions on courses that may be applicable. Please reach out to Matt Estabrooks (mestabrooks@sanbornhead.com) with your feedback.

Younger Member Bowling Night Recap | We had a great turn out for our annual younger member bowling night held at Stowe Bowl on March 22nd. A large group of students from both Norwich University and UVM joined professional members for a fun evening of bowling and networking. We’re looking forward to doing it again next year!
On March 15th and 16th, Stephanie Wyman (Region 1 Governor) and Sean Wines (President-Elect) attended the ASCE Region 1 Assembly in Portland Maine. During the assembly, members representing the different sections and branches spoke about the successes and difficulties throughout the past year. Ideas were shared on how to come up with solutions to the challenges experienced throughout the year and there were opportunities to celebrate the successes. Overall, the meeting was very informative and a good networking opportunity to share ideas for future plans in the Vermont section along with the many other sections and branches represented in Region 1.
