Vallejo, CA- Vallejo Police and Fire Emergency Dispatch received multiple reports of an active brush fire near the intersection of Admiral Callaghan Lane and Turner Parkway shortly before 7 pm on Saturday, July 8th. Fire crews cleared the scene of an earlier structure fire in east Vallejo to respond to the newly reported incident.
Initial arriving crews located a fast moving fire burning through a mowed field, driven by 15-20 mph winds. A total of 3 alarms were struck in order to provide adequate resources.
Despite the speed at which the fire grew, fire crews were able to contain the flames prior to reaching homes on Hunter Ct. and Foothill Dr. Minor damage to a backyard fence was reported. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated and released by a local hospital.
The fire was placed under control at 7:48 pm and is estimated to be 15 acres in size.
Local citizens witnessed a male subject start the fire from the roadway and were able to detain the subject until the Vallejo Police Department arrived and placed him in custody. The fire remains under investigation and is being treated as arson.
Mutual aid was provided by Fairfield, Benicia, Suisun, Crockett, American Canyon and Cal Fire.
