Total Arjuna Supplement
The Sanskrit name, arjuna, literally means an everlasting vibration of "a" that never declines.  The sound, "a," in Sanskrit represents consciousness, and arjuna is full of this divine intelligence of nature.  In the physiology, the "a" value of life (or consciousness), is seated in the heart.  It is through the heart that the body is connected to the soul. Because the tree, arjuna, contains this "a" value in great abundance and is able to maintain it very well, it has the property of being hridya (good for the heart).

news
from Vaidya Mishra's Global Pulse and Marma E-course

Vaidya's e-course is going strong and steady. Our next live call will be on November 22, 2014. We will be posting all answers to questions on the forum today, and look forward to many more from you. Below is a question from one course participant about food.

Food Related Questions
post by C Sudheer

Dear Vaidya,
SVA recognizes food as a medicine and we keep getting questions on the food that we eat on a regular basis.
I have seen a lot of questions being answered in your news letters, but can I ask these questions as part of our monthly discussion.
As we learn more about our physiology as part of the Pulse Course, I am doing doing an introspection of what we are eating and trying to bring more balance to it. Here are some doubts I have currently.

a. Plantain Banana:
I read in your news letter that the Bananas are not good as they create a clogging effect.
What is you opinion on Plantain Banana. We typically boil it on steam and eat it. We are from South India and there we give this boiled banana to kids also.

b. Spicy Food:
Is it true that is OK or good for Kapha people to have pungent/spicy food?
If it has to be spicy, which one better : Green chili, red chilly or pepper?
What is the difference in effect between these?
Also I am very curious to know whether the Cook Book you mentioned in the from SVA will be ready soon
Thanks,
Sudheer

Vaidya replies:

Dear Sudheer: by definition and in terms of its molecular make-up, plantain is channel-clogging. However, in South India it is usually cooked with spices that counter-act its channel-clogging effect so even though it ultimate post-digestive effect may still be channel-clogging, physically its clogging properties are mitigated by the spices. Having said this, I recommend that you eat it only once in a while, not a regular basis as a staple food. If you crave the texture of the plantain as part of your diet, you can add Suran (which can be bought fresh-frozen as it is rarely available otherwise), or the japanese Nagaimo, or taro root, etc.
SVA is not against the use of spices, and in fact, I highly recommend the regular use of green thai chilies, specially for kapha body types, but also for vata constitutions. Green thai chilies cooked along with turmeric, cumin , coriander, fenugreek, curry leaf, fennel, green and black cardamom, cinnamon, kalunji, nutmeg, cinnamon leaf make for a delicious appetizing and aka-reducing mixture.  I recommend these spices based on body type or imbalances in different combinations and ratios. This is why you may have noticed in my blog responses or on www.chandika.com I offer many different spice combinations. Red chilies and pepper contain so much sulfur that they are irritating for daily use: they irritate the stomach lining, kill the friendly bacteria, and heat the tissues - rakta and mamsa. I discourage its use.
My Cookbook is coming soon. I hope to launch it by April during our pulse course weekend practicum.
