Thank You and Best Wishes

We are United Methodists. That means preachers come and go. We know from the start that our time together is limited. In almost all work situations there are limits, but usually, they are based on the benefits to the employee and the employer. In our church it is not just about what is good for the local church and the particular pastor but also what is best for other churches in our Annual Conference. Sometimes the needs of another church trumps the desires of another. Discerning when this is the case is the work of the Bishop and Cabinet. They are the stewards of the many churches and clergy persons.
After six great years on the Vineville staff, Rev. Jon Brown has been asked to become the pastor in charge at Warner Robins First United Methodist. The needs of that congregation match the talents and gifts of our Jon. While we are sad to see him and his family move from Vineville, we are excited for his next steps in ministry and for the church at Warner Robins. They will be blessed by Jon’s ministry and the family the same way we have been. Matt Shoemaker, the chair of our Staff Parish Relations Committee said:
Jon, his family, and their time with us have been a true blessing. In addition to Jon’s ministry, which has been enlightening and always grounded in love and kindness, many of us have been blessed by the family's friendship. They will be missed, but we can take solace in the fact that they will be right down the road and will bless their new church and new community in the same way they have blessed ours. I encourage all of you to wish Jon and his family well in their next adventure and to consider a gift (big or small) as a sign of your appreciation for their time with us.
The Staff Parish Relations Committee wants to give us opportunities to express our thanks and appreciation to Jon. He will be preaching both services on June 4th. At 10:00 on that day, there will be a drop-in reception in the Dining Room for Jon, Sarah, Camille, and Violet. You will want to stop in and greet them on the 4th. You may also wish to express your thanks with a gift. You can send your gift to the church, drop it in the offering plate, or give through Realm. Please mark your gift "Rev. Jon". We will present this token of our thanks and appreciation as part of the 11:00 service on June 4th.
Peace,

Since last August many of you have been praying for some of our students. For several years we have encouraged prayer partners across generations. Some of these have taken the form of prayers from a distance, and others have developed into friendships and mentoring relationships. For all of our students and their families, this has been a source of encouragement. On Sunday I saw one of our students in his first decade of life with his “popcorn” prayer partner who is well into his 8th decade.
My own popcorn prayer list is always close at hand. I quit needing it to remember the names long ago, but it continues to serve as a reminder to pray. Just a glimpse of the red and white card brings the names to mind presenting another opportunity to pray. Thanks to all of the prayer warriors who have prayed for our young people. When school starts back in August, we will offer another opportunity to connect across generations in the vital ministry of prayer.
Peace,

L.H. WILLIAMS AWARDS PROGRAM AND LUNCHEON
|
|
On Monday, May 22nd, we will once again host the awards program for the fifth-grade students from our partner school, L.H. Williams. The students, teachers, staff, and families will gather to celebrate the end of the year and moving on to middle school. This is a big day for the students, parents, grandparents, and teachers, too. Ann Hall has decorations and some helpers lined up. We still need more to make it extra special. Can you volunteer to serve? Decorating begins at 10:00; lunch will be served at noon. We will need help with decorations, greeting, serving lunch, and clean-up.

Hero Hotline VBS is flying to Vineville in just a few weeks, and I could use your help! VBS is a super fun week where so much Christian learning takes place.
We still need some volunteers to be shepherds and station leaders. Please email me at rmccurry@vinevillemethodist.org or use this link if you can help during this great week of ministry! We need adults and youth.
Also, don't forget to go ahead and register your children and grandchildren early so that we can best plan for the week. If you would like to guarantee the purchase of a t-shirt, please register by June 1st. You can register your camper here.
Thank you so much,
Reese
