VT AOT 2024 External Research Projects

The VT AOT 2024 External Research Project Selection Meeting took place on April 3, 2024. Champions presented 7 projects to our decision-makers, who deliberated and selected 3 projects for funding. The 3 selected projects are listed below. Congratulations to our Champions whose projects have been selected!

Landslide Hazard Identification and Monitoring

Champion: Callie Ewald

Vermont has had an increasing frequency of intense storms leading to landslides, mudslides, and debris flows. This project will allow VTrans to monitor slopes during and after storm events using active satellite imaging to inform resource allocation or necessary road closures, and mitigation approaches.

Developing a Framework for Defining Quality and Constructability of Transporation Projects

Champion: Carolyn Cota

The VTrans Structures Design Section has experienced transformational changes in the last twenty years, causing the department to re-examine how they engage with the contracting community. This project will help define quality, risk, and constructability of transportation projects and develop a feedback framework with which VTrans can engage the contracting community and key stakeholders.

GHG Reductions Due to VT Clean Transportation Incentive Programs

Champion: Ari Lattanzi

VTrans administers five Clean Vehicle Incentive programs for Vermont targeting growth in electric and high efficiency vehicles, but little is known about the Clean Vehicle Program effectiveness. This project will evaluate the effectiveness and equity of these programs to inform design improvements and promotion strategies.
