Program Title:  THE WISDOM OF HR

Presenter:  Kathy Dryer, Executive Coach and Consultant

Wisdom is  a  most valuable resource; the rarest quality of all the riches in the world.

Regardless of whether or not you formally use competencies within your organization, as an HR professional you need to be harnessing the power of your wisdom!

For the past twenty-five years the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS) has tried to answer the question of what knowledge and abilities are necessary for successful HR professionals. They have identified the six competencies that matter most and I'm suggesting that another be added. Wisdom.

What you will learn:  You will learn techniques that will help you to apply your knowledge and experience with the balance of wisdom to increase your professional, and personal, effectiveness.  You will also learn how to leverage your wisdom to help yourself and your organization make better decisions.

Kathy Dryer is an Executive Coach and Consultant who focuses on taking clients through a journey of exploration, inspiration and transformation in pursuit of personal and business effectiveness. In her practice, Kathy draws on her over 25 years of corporate experience in the field of Human Resources.  She completed her coaching certification from The Hudson Institute and is an ICF Certified Coach.  She is also certified in Lominger Leadership Architect, MBTI, Positive Psychology Coaching and EQ in Action. She holds a B.S. in International Economics from Rutgers University and the GBP & RBP designations from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

The 5 Myths of High Performance Teams

Presented by Dr. Jennifer D Nahrgang, Assistant Professor at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University

Effective teamwork is critical to all organizations. In this engaging session, Dr. Nahrgang will debunk 5 common myths about teams and give you the tools you need to build your own high performing team in your organization.

Most organizations today use some form of team-oriented work and often HR is called on to assist management on team organization, structure and performance. Managers overwhelmingly agree that teams are central to organizational success. Although teams may be critical to organizational success, leaders and team members often make several assumptions about how to implement teams, foster a collaborative environment, and achieve high performance. In this presentation, Professor Nahrgang will debunk 5 common myths about teams in order to help leaders and team members understand and participate in teams more effectively. HR practitioners and leaders will gain knowledge and tools to improve the effectiveness of their own teams and to coach other leaders on building high performance teams.

Dr. Nahrgang specializes in leadership processes and their development within organizations over time including leadership in teams, team processes and overall team performance. She studied at Michigan State University where she earned her Doctorate in Philosophy. In 2008 Dr. Nahrgang was the recipient of a SHRM Foundation Dissertation Grant Award.
