Hello fellow Virginia Master Naturalists and all friends of Bluebirds,
 
I t’s that time…   I will soon be building bluebird nest boxes for anyone and everyone who wants them for the cost of materials. Set ups need to be in the hands of blue birders by the end of January to ensure that nest boxes are installed in time for next Spring’s nesting season. Once again, I will be devoting this October & November to build and disperse blue bird nest boxes for the 2017 nesting season. 
 
This is the first and last call for bluebird boxes for Spring 2017 if you want them from me for the cost of materials . I’m using the Virginia Bluebird Society recommended “Carl Little” design     http://www.virginiabluebirds.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/BB_Box_Plans_12-11-2012.pdf

I am also producing the Linda Violett 2-hole entry design.  http://nestboxbuilder.com/pdf/Violett2hm.pdf   The Violett design has been tested by the Virginia Bluebird Society and found to be an effective solution in areas plagued by invasive House sparrows. 
 
For the Carl Little design: My material cost for the nest box remains $9. My cost for the pole with a 6” baffle predator guard remains $18 and $22 for a pole with an 8” baffle predator guard. A complete set up with nest box, pole and baffle predator guard is $27 with 6” baffle and $31 with an 8” baffle. If you have a predator problem with very long snakes, 8” baffles can help.

A complete set up with nest box, pole and baffle predator guard is $33 with 6” baffle and $37 with an 8” baffle.     
 
Accounts with building suppliers enable me to purchase materials in quantity at a discount. I build nest boxes and pole/baffle predator guards to order. Mix and match however you like, but please be specific when ordering. I charge for materials only. Labor is free. Please feel free to forward this on to anyone who might be interested. 
 
If you want bluebird boxes from me for the coming Spring 2017 nesting season, please give me your order as soon as you can (deadline September 15th) so that I can get materials ordered and in house. It may seem too early, but it’s not.   Many Virginia Master Naturalists, Virginia Bluebird Society and North American Bluebird Society members have already placed orders. All orders will be available for pickup no later than mid-November.
 
PLEASE NOTE!  Since starting this 5 years ago for local Virginia Master Naturalists, the call for bluebird boxes has grown exponentially to include Master Naturalists, Virginia Bluebird Society and North American Bluebird Society members statewide and across state lines. Last Fall I had orders for 350 set ups with material costs close to $10,000. It has become a modest not-for-profit operation with materials arriving in flatbed trucks and fork lifts coming down the driveway with 100 metal conduit poles at a time.   I would very much appreciate being reimbursed for the cost of materials no later than September 30, 2016. I will provide invoices for organizations/projects that require it and receipts for anyone who wants them.
