VEIAA Newsletter: Edition 3 - Spring 2023

Hello VEIAA members and welcome to the third edition of the VEIAA newsletter! We are excited to welcome the newest VEI graduating class and keep you in touch with upcoming events and VEIAA happenings.

The VEIAA Board has worked hard to offer both virtual updates and in-person learning opportunities for alumni, which have included partnering with CMA (CMI alumni association) for their Summer 2023 Webinar Wednesday series on Neurodiversity happening now. VEIAA also partnered with CMA over the past two years to co-host World of Work 2021, which included not only VEI and CMI alumni engaged in discussions but also Director of Counseling Services for the NYPD, Dr. Tremaine Sayles; Virginia Attorney Karen Michael; and DHRM Executive Director Emily Elliot."

Finally, VEIAA offered the first in-person and virtual (hybrid) Administration Update session (post-pandemic) in November 2022 that involved Chief Transformation Officer, Eric Moeller; Acting Director of PMG and Associate Dean of Research and Outreach in the Wilder School, Robyn McDougle; Chief Data Officer, Ken Pfeil; Chief Information Officer, Bob Osmond; and DHRM Executive Director, Janet Lawson.

VEI Leadership Challenge Presentations

A key feature of VEI is the opportunity to discuss and address real issues being encountered by state government. As part of the VEI experience, each participant works in a small group on a critical problem facing the commonwealth.

Continued Learning for VEIAA members

We were thrilled to hold this much overdo Virginia Executive Institute this Spring! It was wonderful to be together for a reinvigorated VEI and develop new friendships. We continued to have wonderful guest speakers, media day, and leadership challenge presentations at the Capitol with some esteemed guests, including our own Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and Wilder School Dean, Susan Gooden. Thank you to the VEIAA for hosting a wonderful reception in Virginia Beach and being there week 1 for the panel discussion.

We have some exciting partnerships coming up in the Wilder School that will bring forth intriguing new opportunities while still keeping the same professional development and consulting services you have come to love and respect. More on that to come.

We are grateful for the VEIAA community and especially for the hard work of the board and class representatives. We hope everyone is happy, healthy, and finding time to restore and connect.

The why of your Alumni Association

Mission:

To extend the VEI experience by providing opportunities for education, professional training, leadership development, and networking with fellow alumni and state leaders to achieve enhanced performance of state government.

Objectives:

Develop opportunities for alumni to learn, connect, serve and lead.
To provide continuing education in leadership development.
Enhance communication and collaboration opportunities among state government executives.
Create a forum to recognize and promote the qualities and assets of the VEIAA.
