VEIAA Newsletter: Edition 2 - Fall 2021

Hello VEIAA members and welcome to the second edition of the VEIAA newsletter! Our first edition seems like another life ago in fall 2019 so we are glad to resume this newsletter and welcome the newest VEI graduating class. We will be releasing this newsletter twice a year to welcome and introduce the new VEI graduates from the fall and spring graduating class and to keep you in touch with upcoming events and VEIAA happenings.

During a challenging 2020 and 2021, the VEIAA Board has worked hard to offer virtual updates and learning opportunities for alumni, which have included meaningful conversations with such individual leaders as former General Counsel to Governor Northam, Rita Davis; Director at VCU Massey Cancer Center, Dr. Robert Winn; and Founding Director for the Center for Public Policy at VCU (and leading Political Analyst) Bob Holsworth. If you were unable to participate, you should check out the video recordings of these events on the VEIAA YouTube channel.

VEIAA also partnered with CMA over the past year to co-host World of Work 2021, which included not only VEI and CMI alumni engaged in discussions but also Director of Counseling Services for the NYPD, Dr. Tremaine Sayles; Virginia Attorney Karen Michael; and DHRM Executive Director Emily Elliot.

VEI Leadership Challenge Presentations

A key feature of VEI is the opportunity to discuss and address real issues being encountered by state government. As part of the VEI experience, each participant works in a small group on a critical problem facing the commonwealth.

Continued Learning for VEIAA members

We were so happy to hold both the Virginia Executive Institute and the Virginia Government Leadership Summit in July and August in person! It was wonderful to be together, develop new friendships, and share a bit of the emotions of the last eighteen months in community. We continued to have wonderful guest speakers, media day, and leadership challenge presentations, with both a live audience in Charlottesville and a livestream. Thanks to the VEIAA for hosting a wonderful reception at the Omni and being there for graduation for VEI.

The next VGLS is planned for Spring 2022 on June 13th - 17th and we hope to see some of you there! This second session held at The Blackburn Inn in Staunton, VA was very special complete with ghosts and thunderstorms!

We are so grateful for the VEIAA community, and especially for the hard work of the board and class representatives. We hope everyone is healthy and finding some time to pause here and there, restore, and connect with oneself. It's been quite a journey!

Mission:

To extend the VEI experience by providing opportunities for education, professional training, leadership development, and networking with fellow alumni and state leaders to achieve enhanced performance of state government.

Objectives:

Develop opportunities for alumni to learn, connect, serve and lead.
To provide continuing education in leadership development.
Enhance communication and collaboration opportunities among state government executives.
Create a forum to recognize and promote the qualities and assets of the VEIAA.
To actively recruit participants for VEI.

VEIAA Dues

Join your Alumni Association for the year!

The VEIAA Board understands the important value of your membership in the Association and takes very seriously our charge to “develop opportunities for alumni to LEARN, CONNECT, SERVE and LEAD."

After a tumultuous 2020 and 2021, we are planning to transition into a hybrid VEIAA experience for the 2022 year. Join and support your VEIAA for only $40 in annual dues. This $40 investment covers your participation at all VEIAA events, access to the VEIAA Social Media accounts, our newsletter, specific “swag” items, and opportunities to serve on various planning committees throughout the year.
