VDSS Headquarters Relocates to New Innsbrook Location

Richmond, VA (January 17, 2024) – This month, the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) will begin relocating its headquarters from downtown Richmond to its new location at 5600 Cox Road in Glen Allen, VA. The move is expected to be completed by February and will offer enhanced infrastructure and technological improvements that will allow for smarter, more streamlined work, collaboration, and communication across the Commonwealth’s social services system. Virginians will not be directly impacted by the move and will not experience changes or disruptions to the services they receive primarily through the local department of social services (LDSS) throughout the state.

"As we move into our new modern space, we're not just changing our address - we're stepping into a new chapter where every corner of this building reflects our commitment to designing and delivering high-quality human services,” said Virginia Department of Social Services Commissioner Danny Avula. “Just as our services and programs must be continuously evaluated and adapted to the needs of Virginians, so too should our workspace be intentionally evaluated and designed in order to better serve Virginia families through improved teamwork and collaborative engagement at our administrative headquarters.”

With VDSS’ former space converting to apartments and its lease expiring at the end of 2023, the agency began preparing for this move by sending out surveys and holding information sessions over the past year with the more than 800 affected employees to gain insight about the way they use their workspaces in service to Virginia residents. This information identified the current and future needs of each division to guide informed decisions in the design of the new workplace.

Benefit programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, family services, and licensing will continue to operate without any changes throughout this period. Contact information and scheduled services with local offices, including case managers and medical assistance enrollment specialists, will also not be impacted by VDSS’ transition to the new location.

VDSS staff contact information, such as phone numbers and email addresses, will remain consistent throughout the transition and will not change. The locations and contact information for LDSS will also experience no changes.
