There Will be no Mini Show This Week.
All those Artists of the Month - last May through this March, please bring your artwork to be judged for VAST Artist of the Year.
May Guest Artist: Linka Behn
VAST Artist Talk:  Wednesday, May 2,   6:45-9pm
Title of presentation:
"Grandmother's Pearls and a Teacher's Note: Connection and Direction"

Linka Behn's insight into her work:
"I've always drawn. Born in SE Texas, intensely shy, drawing was a way to communicate. A BFA and Masters in Interdisciplinary Art was earned late. Working in mixed media, combining a bit of the recognized with some of the imaginative, using abstracted layers, often with figures and strong women. Textures, colors, objects shift from whole to merely sketched outlines, found objects, symbols and words are buried: a multi-layered environment inviting a story. I strongly believe we are all creative, that creativity extends into all of life, enriching each step taken and changing all we experience."

Linka Behn's artist facebook page can be found  HERE.

Meetings are held at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center,
400 East Hickory St, Denton, TX.
Next Meeting: September 5 , 2018 , 6:45 - 9:00 pm

LynnĂ© Bowman Cravens  was born and raised in Austin, Texas.  She attended St. Edward's University, and received her BA in Photo Communications in 2009. Cravens later attended graduate school at the University of North Texas where she received her MFA in Photography in 2015.  Cravens is a fine art photographer working in an interdisciplinary method. She takes a wide range of approaches in her artwork as a response to her autobiographical narrative. The work is poetic and expressive, revealing a glimpse into her desires through contemporary self-portraiture. Cravens works primarily with photography, making unique pieces from an infinitely reproducible medium. Through meticulous physical distortions and transdisciplinary techniques, she creates photographic pieces that address her personal experiences, identity, and physical form. Each piece and series range from large-scale digital installations to delicate one of a kind objects.

Cravens currently resides in the DFW area, working as the Gallery Manager at  The Art Galleries at TCU . Cravens is in her second and final season as a member of the artist run co-
op,
500X Gallery  in Dallas, Texas. Her work was also featured in the June 2016 issue of the  British Origami Society's international publication, and in the 4 th  Annual  Rising Stars  exhibition at  Turner House . Cravens recently had a solo exhibition of her work in Fort Worth at the  Moncrief Cancer Institute .

"Outside the Box" exhibition at POINTBank Black Box Theater
Lisa Daniels will have work displayed starting March 15 - June 15.

Lisa Daniels will be exhibiting a selection of watercolor and mixed media paintings with her primary theme of auto art.

Daniels has been creating auto art since before she could drive. "I grew up around cars, and their contours, colors, and craftsmanship always fascinated me." Her media include pencil, acrylic, and watercolor on canvas or metal backgrounds.

Daniels partnered with a classic and exotic car restoration business until 1993, when she decided art was her full-time calling. Since then, her work has graced numerous publications and events. A run of 13 prints for the Rolls Royce

Owners Club Stores are highly prized collectibles. When she's not working in her impeccably tidy North Texas home studio, lined with autographed pictures of Mario Andretti, Graham Hill, and Jim Clark, as well as her own work, she's caring for four rescue cats, actively participating in four car clubs and two boat clubs, watching F1 and Le Mans racing or listening to blues on KNON.

Her latest endeavor is exploring abstract and collage techniques. Daniels states, "As long as I can hold a paintbrush and a wrench, I'll keep trying new things. It's better to keep busy and active than rust."

"Stoked About Denton" Exhibition,
walking distance from the PAAC at 608 E. Hickory St., Suite 128
Artist for the Stoked About Denton Exhibition is Carol Stoecker.
Artist Carol Stoecker:
"Art has come in many shapes and sizes in my lifetime.  After earning a Bachelor of Art Degree in Fashion Design with a Minor in Fashion Illustration, I have worked several very creative jobs, from District Home Economist, Pattern Maker, Clothing Designer, Fashion Illustrator, Floral Designer to full time Artist.  I have also volunteered in the Destination Imagination program (creative problem solving) to share some of my creative techniques with children.

In 1999, I expanded my creative career by starting my own business painting murals and faux finishes in hundreds of model and residential homes as well as restaurants. Because my business has grown I have become a full time artist and have experienced many types of paints through my murals, fine art, pet portraits, heirloom paintings and glass painting.

What I like most about my job is the variety of people I get to
know!  I continue to be inspired by the things that create an emotional connection between each client and the pieces I  create for them."

Carol Stoecker is the coordinator for this exhibition. If you are interested in showing, please contact her at storytimeartist@yahoo.com.

Robert Jessup: Squares
February 3 - May 19, 2018
Known for his narrative paintings,  Robert Jessup has eschewed a representational style in his recent work in order to create ambitious paintings and drawings that aim to reconfigure his world of imagery. Barely decipherable figures navigate a wild and colorful pictorial space that churns with a furious plasticity. The very visceral paint application can range from the most delicate whisperings of a fine brush's touch, to the brutal scrapings and trowelings of the widest knife. Jessup states: "The configurations arise from the battle between the charged forces of the rectangle, the impetuosity of my flailing physical self, and the persistence of my desire to configure in spite of my many doubts and dissatisfactions."

The time is from 10 A.M. until 1 P.M. at the Beulah Center and 9:30 - 12:30 at the PAAC. We bring something to work on and/or to share with our VADO friends. Please email me, Fran Shurtleff, at fmrws@centurytel.net to let me know if you wish to come to VADO in our coming year - or if you have any questions.
