Employee Assessments The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is the most widely used personality-assessment instrument in the world. The MBTI personality test asks people how they usually feel or act in particular situations. On the basis of their answers, individuals are classified as extroverted or introverted (E or I), sensing or intuitive (S or N), thinking or feeling (T or F), and judging or perceiving (J or P). These classifications together describe 16 personality types, with every person identified with one of the items in each of the four pairs.
In his book, Profiles of Genius, Gene Landrum profiles 13 business people who created super-successful firms, including Steve Jobs of Apple Computer, Fred Smith FedEx, Soichiro Honda of Honda Motors, Bill Gates of Microsoft, and Akio Morita of Sony, and found that all were "intuitive thinkers," using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) terminology.
