SUMA Executive Elections Nomination Deadline
It's once again time for Executive Elections at Convention. The deadline for nominations for the position of SUMA President is this
Friday, January 20, 5:30 p.m.
Candidates for Vice-President of Towns, and Vice-President of Villages, Resort Villages and Northern Municipalities have until Monday, February 6, 9:00 a.m. to submit their nomination form.

on the SUMA website for information on the nomination eligibility and deadlines, and the election rules and procedures. Please note the deadlines refer to the date and time the nominations papers are to be received in the CEO's office, and that email and fax filing are acceptable.

First Timers
SUMA is offering a Newcomers' Orientation session at Convention 2017. The session takes place Sunday, February 5 at 4:20 p.m., in Salon D. Get an overview of how Convention works, what's on the agenda, and how to get the most out of your three days. Convention 2017: Bus Schedule
Shuttle service for Convention 2017 will be provided by Odyssey Coach Lines Inc. Schedules are now available on
the Convention 2017 page of our website. If you are booked into a hotel where shuttle service is provided, look for the SUMA signs in your hotel lobby for the bus stop location and approximate departure times. The hotel should also provide you with a copy when you check in. There will be a listing at the entrance of TCU Place for end-of-day departures.

There is
one week left to
get your application in for funding under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, and the Provincial Territorial Infrastructure Component (PTIC) of the New Building Canada Fund. The deadline is
noon on Monday, January 23. Details are available
on the Government of Saskatchewan website. Make sure you carefully review the
application guide before trying to use the online form. We have heard feedback that it is not possible to save your application and complete it over a several sessions, and once one page of information has been submitted,
you cannot go back and change it.

Convention 2017: Early Bird Draw Winner
Congratulations to Colette Radcliffe from the Town of Bruno who won the early bird draw for a complimentary Convention registration. Everyone who registered before December 22, 2016, was entered in the draw.

FCM Recruiting Municipalities for International Projects
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is recruiting Canadian municipalities to implement local economic development projects in Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Mali, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nicaragua and Bolivia. The first m
issions will take place between February and April 2017.
The Partnerships for Municipal Innovation: Local Economic Development (PMI-LED) program is now seeking 17 Canadian municipalities to participate. Municipalities interested in engaging in PMI-LED should

MEPP Information Sessions
The Municipal Employees' Pension Plan (MEPP) provides a pension for SUMA members' employees, and urban municipalities are their largest employer group. Some changes are on the table for MEPP, and they've planned presentations around the province to explain the proposed changes. The schedule starts on January 31 and concludes with a webinar on March 30. See their website for dates and to register. Please also pass this information on to your employees who are plan members.

Time to Renew: VFF Insurance
Volunteer Firefighter and First Responders Insurance renewal is due soon. All participating municipalities received renewal invoices in early December. The deadline to renew coverage is February 28. If you plan on renewing this coverage and have not already done so, please send a copy of your invoice along with your payment to the SUMA office. Late renewals will result in a lapse in coverage, so get your renewal in today!

Nominations Open for SWRC Waste Minimization Award
Do you know a waste reduction hero, an inspiring leader who has had a positive impact on the environment? Nominate them for a Saskatchewan
Waste Reduction Council Waste Minimization Award

Nominations must include a
two-page summary
highlighting the amount of waste diverted, impact on the environment and economy, leadership and innovation. The nomination deadline is February 17.

Funding: Green Municipal Fund
The next
deadline to apply for capital project funding from Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund (GMF) is March 1, 2017. Funding includes loans combined with grants for energy, transportation, waste and water capital projects through GMF. Consulting with FCM early in the process to help ensure the success of your application. Contact a GMF advisor today to ask questions and find out if your project is eligible before you apply.

Funding: Clean Technology and Indigenous Economic Growth
Western Economic Development Canada will be accepting proposals from January 25 - February 23, 2017 for the next round of its
Western Diversification Program.
Funding for the 2017 program will support clean technology or Indigenous economic development projects that help to develop and diversify the economy, and activities where economic and/or employment benefits accrue primarily within Western Canada. Learn more about the fund and get ready to apply.

Funding: Rural and Remote High Speed Internet
A new initiative by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada will invest up to $500 million by 2021 in new and upgraded high speed Internet infrastructure for rural and remote communities. The national call for applications will be open from
January 16 - March 13, 2017. You can start preparing now by

Project plans for 2016 show the federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) supported 120 local roads and bridges projects in Saskatchewan's urban municipalities. Earlier this month, SUMA expressed gratitude on behalf of members for the "predictable, long-term, indexed funding" our members receive thanks to the GTF. SUMA thanks the Government of Canada for their commitment to Saskatchewan hometowns.

2017 Canada Summer Jobs until
