Good times remembered

Bob Walker and Jody Biddle, co-presidents of the Thetford Historical Society, led a fun afternoon celebration of Rice's Mills village, school, and community center. Five long-time residents shared the glories of the one-room schoolhouse. "It taught us to get along with other people," said one. Sweet sounds came courtesy of folk duo Bruce and Jenny Keller and guitarist Ted Warner.

Hidden Treasures

JAM was on the bus! We toured resident-owned communities Mascoma Valley, Mascoma Meadows, and Pleasant Valley in Lebanon, Canaan, and Claremont, respectively. These affordable manufactured-home neighborhoods are a blessing for older folks on fixed incomes. "The closeness of the community is the most important part of living here," says Pam Goude, Mascoma Meadows Board President.

Jane's Cure in Hanover

Lyme author D.K. Kennedy read from her debut novel Jane's Cure at Still North Books & Bar earlier this month. Set in 1850s New Brunswick, Canada, midwife Jane Angier is imprisoned in a granite cell for the crime of helping women time their pregnancies. The question is, did she help a rape victim end her pregnancy? "Vivid writing, great details," rave the co-authors of Our Bodies, Ourselves.

Desperately Seeking Humor without RomCom

NEW Podcast Episode 40 - Listener Dianne's need for "some good humor books that are not romantic comedies of Janet Evanovich" led the booksellers into discussion about whether Janet Evanovich even writes humor books. Spoiler alert: We came to no conclusion. But we did come up with some great book tips that aim to leave everyone laughing!
