New Waiver Waiting List rule approved, effective September 1

Through the efforts of the Fix the List Coalition and many people with developmental disabilities and their families, a new Waiver Waiting List rule has been approved. This new rule sets forth requirements for the waiting list when a county board of DD determines that available resources are insufficient to enroll individuals who are assessed to need and choose home and community-based services through a Medicaid waiver. The rule goes into effect on September 1, 2018.

Flash mob returns to ADA day at Wade Oval Wednesday
Come join in the fun! Everyone is welcome!

Based on the huge success of last year's surprise dance (flash mob), the Cuyahoga County Board of DD is once again coordinating a flash mob in celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at Wade Oval Wednesday from 5-6:15 PM on July 25, 2018.

Everyone is welcome to be a part of this exciting celebration. Rehearsals will be held from 6:45-8:15 PM on Tuesday, July 10 at Big Creek Center (6149 W. 130th St. in Parma) and Wednesday, July 11 at the Euclid Adult Activities Center (1490 East 191 St. in Euclid).

Providing supports to young children and their parents
in the community too

Last year, the Cuyahoga County Board of DD's Early Intervention (EI) professionals provided over 25,000 visits to 2,436 young children (ages birth through age two) and their parents. Each year, more and more visits are occurring at places families like to frequent in the community, such as libraries, parks, stores, and restaurants. EI professionals work with parents at these community locations, assisting them to help their child participate as fully as possible and enjoy time with their peers.

Join the Cuyahoga County Board of DD and Attorney David S. Banas of Hickman & Lowder Co., L.P.A. at a special forum to learn about many planning topics important to people with developmental disabilities and their families, including estate planning, public benefits/Medicaid, STABLE accounts, and guardianship.

The forum will be held on August 7, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the ESC of Cuyahoga County.

There's still time to participate in the
Cuyahoga Campership Program.

CCBDD’s Cuyahoga Campership Program assists individuals who do not have a Support Administrator* or who are not enrolled in the Family Supports Program** with the cost of attending a summer camp.

To access the Cuyahoga Campership Program:
  • Select and register with any camp that meets your needs.
  • Complete and submit the Cuyahoga Campership Program application prior to attending the camp. CCBDD will not fund any camp that has not had prior approval. The application is available HERE.
  • CCBDD will review your application and will inform both you and the selected camp if your application was approved or denied.
  • The maximum campership amount is up to $700 per individual for the camp season.
  • Campership funds are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

* If you have a Support Administrator, please contact him/her to explore camp funding options. 
** If you are enrolled in the Family Supports Program, please contact NEON at 1(800) 237-6828 to explore camp options.

2018 Provider & Resource Fair

The Cuyahoga County Board of DD will be hosting a provider and resource fair on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 10 am - 2 pm at the Holiday Inn on Rockside Road in Independence. This fair is a great way to learn about services and resources for people with developmental disabilities.

Over 50 provider agencies and community partners will be participating. Break-out sessions on current topics of interest will also be featured during this event.

Who should attend?
-People with developmental disabilities
-Students preparing to transition from high school
-Parents, caregivers and family members
-Anyone who supports persons with developmental disabilities
