Christmas Tree Disposal Options

Did your family decorate a real tree for Christmas this year? Unsure how to dispose of it?

Shorewood residents have two options:

Drop-Off

Bring your tree to the Shorewood Police Department and drop it off in the corral on the east side of the PD. All lights, tinsel, and ornaments must be removed. Flocked trees must be placed with regular garbage.

Curbside Pick-Up

Waste Management will collect Christmas trees with the weekly pick-up on Tuesdays. It is included with your service for three weeks following the Christmas Holiday (January 9th and January 16th). The tree must be cut in half if it is over 6 feet tall.

Grab your calendars and mark the upcoming meetings in January! The next Village Board meeting will be Tuesday, January 9th, at 7:00 p.m.

Village Board meetings can be viewed on Shorewood Community Cable Television. SCCTV broadcast is on Comcast Channel 6 throughout Shorewood and AT&T U-verse Channel 99 throughout Will County.

United States Secret Service Presentation - Citizen's Advisory Committee Meeting

The Village elected officials, staff, and Citizen's Advisory Committee invite the public to attend a special presentation from the United States Secret Service (USSS) on January 25, 2024.

The United States Secret Service is one of America’s oldest federal law enforcement agencies, created in 1865 to stamp out rampant counterfeiting to stabilize America's young financial system. Since then, the Secret Service's duties have expanded greatly to include protecting our Nation's leaders and performing a wide array of investigations.

If you are interested in hearing more about what the Secret Service does and information about various scams and cyber security measures, please come to the Citizen's Advisory Committee meeting for a presentation from a Special Agent.

Winter Preparedness Tips - Are You Winter-Ready?

Excited about snow this weekend? Well, as we brave the light accumulations in the coming week, it is a great time to check our winter storm plan and assess our preparedness for snowy emergencies.

What can you do now? Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with battery backups, and have emergency supplies ready in your house and car. Great emergency supplies for your car include a cell phone charger, jumper cables, a snow shovel and brush, blankets, water, and snacks.

You can also sign up for emergency weather alerts from the Shorewood Police Department and keep up with weather updates on the National Weather Service's Facebook page.

Why Anti-Icing?

Did you know the crunchy salt we see (and step on) in winter isn't the only solution to combat the icy winter roads? There's another snow removal practice called anti-icing.

Anti-icing is a proactive approach to snow removal in which lines of liquid deicing solution are sprayed on the pavement before a snowstorm. When used according to snow and ice removal best management practices, anti-icing saves salt, reduces labor time, and minimizes environmental impact.
